Division 3's all-star team with Crandon varsity girls coach Jim Bradley as head coach and assisted by junior varsity coach Steve Weber came from behind to grab a thrilling 82-79 win over the south team a week ago Saturday. Trailing by as much as 20 points early, the north all-stars put on a furious rally that brought them a tie and the last second victory.

With about two seconds remaining and the north with the ball and a time out, Weber is telling Bradley to run "the play." Bradley said he had about 20 plays swirling in his head and no idea what "the play" was. He finally told Weber to "earn his five dollars" and explain it.

The play turned out to be the same one, with options, that Crandon ran against Bonduel when Kathryn Mattson drove the lane for the basket and the region win. This time, instead of driving the lane like Mattson, in this case Katey Wrobel of Osseo-Fairchild, Wrobel passed to Courtney Doucette from Colfax on the left side. Doucette drained the three-pointer for the north victory. Bradley said that Weber jumped at least two feet into the air.

Everyone on the team received playing time. Mattson, as Crandon's representative, got to play about half the game. Green Bay recruit Amy Zastrow hit by one account "six or seven three's" to help the north cause.

As to which coach has the bragging rights, it may depend on the point of view. Bradley, as head coach, will be recorded as the winning coach, and it was his play. Weber will certainly contend that it was he who holds a greater share, as it was he who called for the play that worked.
