For those who have a New Year’s resolution to get out more, Treehaven has just the ticket. It will be hosting the “Weave Your Own Snowshoes” workshop Jan. 16-18.

According to Treehaven’s information, “This workshop is woven with a friendly atmosphere, excellent instruction, an historical look at snowshoeing and a hands-on chance to weave your own masterpiece.”

Each participant will take home one pair of beautiful, functional snowshoes: The Ojibwa, an elongated trail shoe coming to a point at each end, the bear Paw, a shortened oval design, or the Alaskan, an elongated trail shoe coming to a point at the tail with a rounded toe. Shoes will be completed with the exception of varnishing.

The full package is $260, which includes five meals, lodging (two to a room), instruction and kit. The commuter package, $190, includes three meals, instruction and kit. The price includes materials with the exception of varnish.

Class size is limited. The registration deadline is Jan. 9 for the Jan. 16 workshop. For more information, call (715) 453-4106 or e-mail Treehaven at treehaven@uwsp.edu.

Treehaven’s public programs offer a wide variety of opportunities to get people outdoors and having fun. College credit is often available. Weekend workshops generally run from Friday night through Sunday lunch and are all-inclusive with instruction, great meals and comfortable lodging on site.

Treehaven is a residential natural resources education and conference facility located between Rhinelander and Tomahawk. It is owned and operated by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and rests on a glacial ridge overlooking 1,400 acres of forest and wetlands.
