Typical winter days of snow and ice
Marion Soch Correspondent
(Popple River News) - Typical winter days we are having! Snow, ice and wind and lots of it. The meltdown over the weekend took about half the snow away. One good thing the meltdown did was put down a base for snowmobiling. Hopefully, it is not too icy a base. Even though the trails opened up around here, we haven't seen too many snowmobilers out to enjoy the snow.
We saw a couple folks in the neighborhood spending some time during the holidays here. John from the Bluebird Road and Dan Brezinski both enjoyed a few days at the cabins.
Jan and Bill Lange spent the Christmas holiday with their kids in the Manitowoc/Two Rivers area.
Wayne and Rosie Konitzer spent Christmas in Oconto Falls with their daughter there. They said their Christmas ritual was a bit different this year, now that they moved here. Old traditions ended and new ones began. This is what makes life interesting, always something new.
We received some interesting literature of the Wisconsin Deer Donation for the 2008 gun season. Since the year 2000, when the program began, Forest County has received in donations 203 deer. This is processed and donated to the food pantry to feed the needy.
In the nine years of deer donation, hunters and processors have provided over three million pounds of ground venison in the state. This year, the donated deer throughout the state generated 234,000 pounds of ground venison.
Totals of deer donated were, year 2000, 32 deer; year 2001, 32 deer; year 2002, 35 deer; 2003, 19 deer; 2004, 23 deer; 2005, 26 deer; 2006, 16 deer; 2007, 9 deer and 2008, 11 deer. It is interesting to note that a total of deer donated in the state was 68,425 by 55 counties and 123 processors ground the meat.
The above information was provided by the Forest County Land and Water Conservation Department with the support of the Land and Water Conservation Committee, Cindy Gretzinger, County Conservationist. Thanks Cindy.
Happy birthday greetings go out to Marcy Nichols on Jan. 1, Nancy Lemmen on Jan. 3 and Clint Walli on Jan. 5. Enjoy your day to the fullest!
Happy New Year and may all your dreams and wishes transpire.
