If it’s January it must be time for snowmobile racing in Wisconsin.

The first race of the 2009 season for the spectator-friendly Northern Vintage Snowmobile Race Series (NVSRS) is on Saturday, Jan. 3.

Registration is from 7 to 9 a.m. at the track with the races starting at 10:30 a.m. The races will be held at the Goodnow Speedway, at the junction of Lakewood and Fern Wood Roads in Harshaw.

The Harshaw Wanderers Snowmobile Club is hosting.

According to its Web site, the NVSRS is a non-profit group of vintage snowmobile enthusiasts that promote fundraising through racing for other organizations. The organization’s annual membership for 2008 consisted of approximately 200 racers.

The Goodnow races will kick-off the winter series. Racers will also compete on Boom Lake, in Sugar Camp and on Crescent Lake in January.

For more information about NVSRS see its Web site, www.nvsrs.org.
