Library hosting popcorn and movie By Michael SkubalDAILY NEWS STAFF Two smells a kid should be able to count on are those of books and fresh popcorn. And, if you’re a regular at the Rhinelander Public Library, you’ll be able to smell both this afternoon in the meeting room between 2 and 3:45 p.m. It’s time for Popcorn and a Movie and the movie this time is “Horton Hears a Who,” a full length children’s movie starring the voices of Jim Carrey, Steve Carell, Carol Burnett, Will Arnett and Seth Rogen. Carrey is the voice of Horton, the inventive and sensitive elephant who teaches his young friends about the amazing world around them. One day, with his big ears, Horton hears a voice on a speck of dust floating in the air. It is the Mayor of Whoville, who cannot believe there is something bigger than his world. The Mayor thinks his world is in great danger but everyone thinks he is crazy. Horton runs into the same problem when he tells people about the town on a speck of dust. Horton defends the small town saying, “A person’s a person, no matter how small.” And small people are just what the library’s looking for. And their parents and sisters and brothers. There is no admission and fresh popcorn will be served. Tom Hurlburt is director of the Children’s Department, “Everybody’s welcome. We have a big projector and a popcorn machine. The Dr. Suess books are always popular. If you like the story, you can check out the book.” “Horton Hears a Who” will entertain all ages on the big screen. Here’s a chance to take a break before the New Year’s celebration. For more information, call 365-1073. |
