Arthur L. Tyler

Arthur L. Tyler, 81, of Champaign, Ill., passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Ill.

Arthur was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Crandon, a son of Myrtle and Porter Tyler. He married Phyllis Flanigan on June 28, 1947. She survives.

He was active in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and was a Special Agent for National Union Fire Ins. Co. from 1947-1952. He moved to Champaign in 1952, and was an Insurance Agent from 1952-1989. He was the Chairman, President and CEO of Insurance Risk Managers Ltd. when he retired. He served as President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois (IIAI) in 1979 and received the Cartwright Award in 1987 recognizing his role as a long time insurance industry and association leader.

He served on the following Boards of Directors: Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois, Independent Insurance Agents of America, Tyler, Fletcher, Fink, Ltd, National Association Political Action Committee, Urbana Golf and Country Club, The Baby Fold of Bloomington, First United Methodist Church of Champaign, Wesley Foundation at University of Illinois, Central Illinois Financial Corporation, Market Place National Bank, Champaign National Bank and Insurance Risk Managers Ltd.

In service to the community he was a leader with the Boy Scouts of America, the Champaign-Urbana Little League and President of the Yankee Ridge Elementary School PTA. He was a member of the American Legion Post 71, Urbana.

Surviving are a son, Steven L. Tyler (Carol) of Champaign; twin daughters, Barbara Tyler Henderson (Joe) of Peoria and Deborah Tyler Lorenc (Dan) of Springfield; five grandchildren, Drew Tyler (Rhonda), Jenna Tyler, Laura Tyler, Amy Lorenc Delcomyn (Michael) and Emily Lorenc; and two great-grandchildren, Audrey Delcomyn and Keira Lorenc.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Florence Jacobs of Yuma, Ariz.; and two brothers, George Tyler and Billy Tyler both of Crandon.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, 210 West Church Street, Champaign. The Rev. Dr. Terry Harter will officiate.

Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Dr. West, Savoy is assisting with arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Champaign.

Edward Simek

Edward Simek of Antigo, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008 at the Crandon Nursing Home. He was 77 years old.

He was born Sept. 19, 1931 in Town of Peck, the son of the late Frank and Victoria (Franc) Simek.

He was married to Barbara Reynolds on Oct. 23, 1954. She preceded him in death. He was later married and divorced from Barbara Mabry and Signa Lambrecht.

He graduated from Antigo High School in 1949 and served in the Wisconsin National Guard from 1952 to 1955 with Company C, 426th Infantry in Antigo. He was a Corporal.

In Lake Geneva he was a milk tester. He was employed by Northern Auto as a salesman. From 1978, he and Ron Nonnenmacher owned and operated Mid Wisconsin Coaches until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of ZCBJ Lodge 277.

He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and his grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Valerie (Richard) Wilson of Argonne and Sherri (Wayne) Link of Crandon; two sisters, Ann Pechman of Deerbrook and Rose Malliette of Crandon; five grandchildren, Brian (Jill) Wilson, Christopher Wilson, Seth Packard, Shane Packard and Trevor Packard, all of Argonne; four great-grandchildren, Blake, Nolan, Wyatt Wilson and Emersyn Packard; two sisters-in-law, Angie Simek McHenry of Ill. and Jean Simek of Wittenberg.

He was preceded in death by parents; his first wife, Barbara; two brothers, Laddie and Frank; and one grandson, Matthew Wilson.

Services was held at Bradley Funeral Home, Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Omer Kelley.

Interment was in the Lakeside Cemetery Crandon in Crandon.

Visitation was Saturday, Nov. 8 from 1 p.m. to time of services at Bradley Funeral Home.

Dolores (Schott) “Dotty” “Aunt Dee” Bocek

Dolores L. Bocek, born in Milwaukee on May 2, 1926, found peace on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 in Milwaukee, where she resided, at the age of 82 years.

Dolores was the proud and loving mother of Judy Bocek, Karen (the late Gustave Sr.) DeBaker, James Bocek, Robert (Lynn) Bocek, Mark Bocek, all of Milwaukee, and Paul (Jackie) Bocek of Crandon; proud and loving grandmother of 10 and great-grandmother of 11; loving sister to Geraldine Rogonski of Milwaukee; and sister-in-law to Marie Peterson, Anne Letto, June Houle and Marcella Gretzinger and Jerry Bocek, all of Crandon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Frances Schott; sister, Pat Harmeyer; grandson, Craig Ekker; son-in-law, Gus DeBaker, all of Milwaukee; and ex-husband, Edward H. Bocek of Hiles.

She is survived by daughters, sons, nieces, nephews and lots of relatives and friends.

She was laid to rest in St. Adalbert Cemetery in Milwaukee on Friday, Oct. 17, 2008.

Dolores had a love for children and showed it as she ran a daycare on Norwich Street for over 30 years. Her favorite thing to do consisted of marathon card games with her family and friends. Christmas will never be the same without her warm and elaborate, loving celebrations. She loved to cook and was a very loving, caring and special person to many.
