News : Vaccination clinic successful in Mole Lake
Cory Campbell Animal Resource Fund
(Animal Resource Fund News) - Everyone agrees that fall is a beautiful time of year here in our northern communities. It can be an exceptionally busy and many times frustrating time of the year however, for those of us struggling to provide help for those animals in peril.
The recent shot clinic held at Mole Lake was a huge success which we are very pleased with. It was especially encouraging to see the numbers of both dogs and cats that were brought in. Thankfully, ARF was able to provide the 5-in-1 canine annual vaccines and the feline vaccines immunizing for feline leukemia to compliment the rabies vaccines that were provided by the health clinic there. Our goal is to eventually stamp out the spread of distemper and parvo. We are grateful to all who helped make this possible. The donation by the Sokaogon Chippewa Community gave us another financial boost to help even more animals.
Now that we have contact with a traveling veterinarian who does shot clinics, we’re hoping to get another clinic set up in the near future.
We are receiving many calls by people who are being referred to us by the Forest County Humane Society. We are doing our utmost to provide care for those animals, but please understand that we are working again with no facility – only foster care. And, since we are a new organization, we do not have unlimited funds, in spite of the hard work our people are doing. When we take care of a dozen cats and eight dogs in one week alone, I feel we’re doing our part to alleviate the animal problems here in Forest County.
We are fortunate indeed to have foster homes as far away as Green Bay.
We are continuing to get food to animals, both on the shelves at NEWCAP in Crandon, and any other situations that we hear of where animals are in need. We are also helping with sterilization where we can, helping to curb the over-population that our area is plagued with.
Now with the coming of winter, we will be trying to get bedding to dogs and cats that are being cared for in unheated housing. Ideally, any pet not kept in your own home should be provided with some sort of heat in their house, i.e., heated bed, pad, etc. When that is not an option though, an insulated house with lots of bedding is the next best provision.
Styrofoam insulation in the floor of the pet’s house provides the most warmth, for your pet loses body heat through their under belly where they lie.
Look for our donation cans in area businesses and help us to help more animals.
