The Marshfield Clinic Occupational Health program reaches out to employer groups during the fall for on-site flu clinics.

“Employers love this service because it brings the medical care and immunizations directly to the employee, many who would otherwise just not seek this preventative health benefit,” said Donna Stone, R.N., COHN-S, Marshfield Clinic Occupational Health Clinical Operations manager. “Last week, I was at a large employer’s location in Park Falls that had not provided an on-site flu clinic in a number of years. I found that approximately 70 percent of their people had either not gotten a flu vaccine in a number of years, or had never received one.”

“This is the rewarding part - taking the service to the customer,” Stone explained. “I've already given more than 400 injections at various employers, and will personally give nearly 1,000 flu shots through November.”

Marshfield Clinic Occupational Health, across our system of care, gives nearly 5,000 flu injections to employer groups.

“We have seen an increase due to more emphasis on worksite wellness initiatives by employers and coverage at 100 percent for flu vaccines by insurance companies,” Stone said. “We work closely with Security Health Plan for business referrals, as well as receive direct contact by the employer groups. Whether the employer pays out-of-pocket, or the flu immunization is covered by insurance, it's a benefit for the employer because keeping employees well is much less expensive than covering them when they are sick. Employee wellness contributes greatly to increasing productivity and reducing absenteeism.”
