News : Congressman Kagen visits Forest County
Congressman Steve Kagen, M.D. was in Mole Lake and Crandon last weekend listening to constituents concerns about the economy, health care and the high cost of energy. Dr. Kagen, who is running for reelection to Wisconsin's 8th Congressional District, shared his thoughts about how we can take this country in a new direction.
"Steve Kagen is an honest man. He backs veterans and he is good for our children," said Ralph McHugh, a Korean War veteran from Wabeno.
Kagen voted twice against the Wall Street bailout and has brought back $25 million in investments for Northeast Wisconsin. These investments are returning federal tax dollars to our region, improving communities and spurring job creation. He has fought for Wisconsin's papermakers testifying in front of the International Trade Commission and urging balanced trade deals that ship our values overseas not our jobs.
"As our Congressman, Steve has done so much to help small communities like ours," said Shirley Mills of Crandon.
Congressman Kagen has refused his taxpayer funded health care until the citizens who pay for it have health care of their own. Kagen authored a bill to end discrimination by health insurance companies against pre-existing medical conditions. He supported bills for the continuation of Badgercare, championed legislation to extend health care to uninsured children and fought for affordable prescription drugs for seniors.
"I am working hard to bring about the changes we need in Northeast Wisconsin and I am asking for your vote," said Kagen. "Working together, we will continue to bring about the positive changes we need – like bringing higher-wage jobs back to Northeast Wisconsin where they belong, guaranteeing access to affordable health care for all of us, lowering energy prices while becoming energy independent and ending our costly involvement in Iraq's religious civil war."
Kagen visited our troops in Iraq and has honored our commitment to our nation's veterans. He passed the greatest increase in veterans benefits in 77 years, granted a pay raise to all soldiers, supported the 21st Century G.I. Bill to ensure veterans receive an education when they return to their civilian lives and introduced a bill that will provide benefits to veterans with certain cancers as a result of exposure to Agent Orange.
"I am on the side of Wisconsin families and my record proves it. We have it within our reach to bridge the gap between the great nation we are and the even greater nation we can become. This Nov. 4th, I respectfully ask you for your vote," said Kagen.
