News : Make plans to come to the homecoming game
Leah Ziolkowski - Correspondent
(Goodman-Armstrong Creek News) - “To let friendship die away by negligence and silence, is certainly not wise. It is voluntarily to throw away one of the greatest comforts of this weary pilgrimage.” – Samuel Johnson, March 20, 1782, from Boswell, Life of Johnson
Homecoming is on its way! Sept. 27th. If you haven’t made plans to come, please get on with it! It is good for the soul to enjoy the warmth of true friendship of those we grew up with. It doesn’t matter how many years it has been since you’ve seen them, one hug and it hasn’t been a day!
Russian Friendship Tea Mix
This is a delicious orangey tea that makes your whole house smell wonderful! This is an instant version of the real Russian tea, which is more like a hot fruity tea punch.
This recipe makes four cups of the mix
1 1/2 cups sugar (or less, to taste)
2 cups instant Tang orange drink
1/2 cup sweetened iced tea mix powder
1 envelope unsweetened lemonade mix
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
Combine all ingredients well and store in an airtight container.
To use, fill a mug with boiling water and stir in 2-3 teaspoons of mix, to taste.
If all you can find is presweetened lemonade, then use the amount of dry mix needed for a two quart pitcher according to the package instructions and leave out the sugar.
Grab a thermos-full, and a warm blanket to chase away the chill at the upcoming football games.
Football
As a beautiful late summer day faded into a cool early fall evening, the Predators made the Florence Bobcats look more like “Hello Kitty” on their home field. It was a hard hitting game. One of the most exciting plays was a pass thrown by Dan Parent under pressure in “Hail Mary” style, to Andrew Janczy in the end zone. Unfortunately it didn’t count because it was just outside the end zone, but what a catch! It’s very exciting to see the improvement in the Predators passing game. They still continue to run the ball well, but passing has become a strong part of the Predator offense.
Say Uncle
Joe Tomkiewicz, Rachel Ziolkowski’s grandpa, recently moved to Goodman. He had been living in Florence for the past three years. Joe was paid a visit this past week by his brothers Steve and Don Tomkiewicz from Milwaukee. The three brothers attended the Predator football game in Florence with their brother-in-law Stanley Suszka who is from Florence. At 75 years young, this was Uncle Don’s first high school football game. While he was here he also experienced his first ATV ride.

Lake of the Woods yields no monsters
How does one spell “musky fishing? Some spell musky as “muskie” and others talk about musky hunting rather than musky fishing. Three of us who just returned from a trip to the state of Minnesota spell it “frustration!” For several years we have been listening to the fish stories told by members of the musky fraternity who have returned from a fishing trip to one of the large Minnesota musky lakes. Those stories about huge muskies, which have not received much fishing pressure, caught our attention. A trip was in the planning stages for some time. READ MORE >
