Jill Krueger, new Forest County Health Department Director, is working on plans for the future health of Forest County residents.

Krueger, who took over the position after it was vacated by Linda Kortbein last week, is currently acclimating herself to her new work environment and beginning to work on a five-year Community Health Plan for Forest County. This plan, modeled after the state plan will review state and county health data, survey the county to assess needs and prioritize those needs based on the state plan.

Krueger said she is examining the last plan that was created and attempting to find out how much progress was made on the previous goals.

“(I will) look to see how much was done to see what still needs to be worked on,” Krueger said.

Krueger has been a nurse for 15 years and spent the last nine years working in long-term care with Rhinelander Public Health.

“I thought it (the position) was perfect since I live here,” she said. “Everybody works really well together. The transition has been very smooth for me.”

She said that the next few weeks will be a very busy time in the health department office.

“In the near future, once kids go back to school, we will make sure the kids are up to date on their vaccinations,” she said.

Other projects looming in the future include creating the budget for 2009 and working on grants and contracts for the coming year.

“I’m learning the programs, meeting community partners, visiting clinics and nursing homes, getting an idea of who the partners are. It’s been fun,” she said.
