Summer lift off: Put your muscles to work

This summer you have a chance to show off your strength at the first ever Summer Lift Off on July 19 at the YMCA of the Northwoods. But this is not an average weight lifting competition.

The Summer Lift Off has three events to challenge participants’ strength: the bench press, squat and dead-lift.

As a fundraiser for improving equipment in the weight room, organizers wanted to do something a little different than a standard power lifting competition.

Rather than having a standard entry fee participants must raise a penny for each pound they plan to lift. The real goal of this event is to build camaraderie between the weightlifters in the community, and all ages and abilities are encouraged to come and participate.

There will be winners in each division as well as prizes awarded to those who raise the most money. Although there will be a certain amount of competition in the event, organizers hope everyone feels like they can be involved.

Volunteers are needed to help with the event and even if you are not ready to compete you can still come and help out.

The event will start off with weigh-ins at 1 p.m. with the competition starting at 2 p.m.  Registration forms are available online www.ymcaofthenorthwoods.org and at the YMCA 362-9622.
