Elaine H. Clouse (Collins)
Elaine H. Clouse (nee Collins) passed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the age of 88.
She was preceded in death by Jerry, her husband of 57 years; parents, Elmer and Florence Collins; brother, Loyal Collins; and sister, Jovie Whitens.
She is survived by brother, Terry (Judy) Collins; sister-in-law, Marge Collins; cousin, Ray (Fay) Collins; children, Pam (David) Deeds, Gary (Cherrie) Clouse, Susie (Leigh) Carr and Theresa (Tommy) Balistreri; grandchildren, Travis (Becky) Graf, Glen (Chrissy) Clouse, Charlie Carr, Clayton (Rhiannon) Clouse and Saree (Tad) Anderson, Deidre (Tom Surendonk) Carr and Karol Clouse; great-grandchildren, Catherine, Bryce and Victoria Graf, Anaiya, Gabriella and Cheyenne Clouse; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Monday, July 14 at Weber Hill Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to noon. Funeral Services were at noon. Interment was at Laona Cemetery in Laona.
Emily Adelle Nimke Kew (Shepard) Jacobson
Emily Adelle Nimke Kwe (Shepard) Jacobson age 73, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on July 12, 2008.
Emily was born on September 24, 1934 in Carter to the late Frank and Aileen Petonquet Shepard. She lived in Carter all of her life. On July 5, 1955 she married Jesse Jacobson.
She was a busy homemaker, not only taking care of a large family, but also cooking tasty meals of wild game and chicken, making jams from the berries she picked, sewing and doing bead work.
She is survived by three daughters, Cindy (Greg) Miller, Brenda (Phil) Shopodock and Lori (Scott) Anderson; two sons, Jesse Jacobson Jr. and Benji Jacobson; two step-children, Gerald Jacobson and Betty Poler; nineteen grandchildren, Jessica, Tiff, Travis, Shelby, Jennifer, Kathy, Tanya, T.J. Amanda, Stacy, Casey, Darcy, Mykel, Katherine, Amber, Jenna, Albert, Sarah, and Clara; six great-grandchildren, Sara, Jesse, Bryce, Dalilha, Demetrick and Riley; two brothers, Walter and William Shepard; two sisters, Margaret Shepard and Laura (Martin) Cooper; and sister-in-law, Patricia Shepard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse Jacobson Sr.; two daughters, Aileen and Brenda Lea; four brothers, Louie, Frank, Cecil and Jim Shepard; and one sister, Viola Gerdeen.
The visitation was held on Monday July 14, at the Suminski Funeral Home in Wabeno from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral ceremony at 2 p.m. Officiating the ceremony was Pastor Dennis Larson. Interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery in Carter. Honoring Emily as pallbearers were Greg Miller, Phil Shopodock, Scott Anderson, Travis Thelen, Mykel Jacobson and Frank Shepard. Ben Gilewski
Ben Gilewski, age 98, of Armstrong Creek, passed away at the Nu-Roc Nursing Home of Blackwell on Sunday, July 13, 2008. He was born September 26, 1909 in Milwaukee, the son of the late Paul and Sophie Gilewski.
On September 12, 1931 he married Mary (Mae) Waise. She preceded him in death in 1975. He worked as a farmer and later in life worked as a laborer for the Soo Line Railroad until his retirement.
He was a faithful member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church of Armstrong Creek all of his life. He surely loved his Lord.
Ben loved to fish and hunt, but most of all took great pride in growing a beautiful garden every year. He also enjoyed his weekly trips to Laona to shop, have lunch and visit his grandchildren. They will really miss that.
He is survived by his daughter, Alice (Jerry) Jedlowski of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Cecilia Moddie of Armstrong Creek; and grandchildren, Bob (Mary) Fatla, Debby (Homer) Belland, Jane (Rick) Albrecht, Frank Fatla, Steve (Emma) Fatla all of Laona, Joan (Glen) Koenig of Daggott, Mich., Gary (Ann) Jedlowski and Glen (Vera) Jedlowski all of Chicago, Ill. Ben was also blessed with 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Fatla; a son, Bernard Gilewski; a grandson, Mark Jedlowski; a brother, Steve; and sisters, Bertha, Stella, Sophie and Mary.
Visitation is on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Funeral mass to follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Armstrong Creek with Father Dave Schmidt officiating. Interment was at Pine Hill Cemetery in Armstrong Creek. Weber-Hill Funeral Home of Crandon assisted the family with the arrangements.
A special thank you to Larry Tomaszewski for being such a good friend to Grandpa all these years.
John Allan Calhoun
John Allan Calhoun, age 77, of Laona, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Clement J. Zablocki Veteran Medical Center in Milwaukee. John was born in Laona on February 22, 1931, the son of the late Raleigh Robert and Birdie (Breuer) Calhoun.
After graduation John worked in Sheboygan until joining the U.S. Army in 1949. During his years of service he received the Korean Service Medal, Five Bronze Stars, Two Overseas Bars, the Purple Heart, Distinguished Unit Citation and most notable the Croix De Guerre of Foreign Theatres of Operation (Silver Star) and a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster.
After receiving an honorable discharge in 1952, he returned to Laona and on January 10, 1953 at the Presbyterian Church he married Jacqueline Collins. Through life John worked at Connor Lumber and Land and the Forest County Highway Department until his retirement at age 62.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie of Laona; daughters, Mary (Sam) Landru of Missouri and Carol (Michael) Retzlaff of Laona; sons, Richard (Julie) Calhoun of Cavour and John (Lisa) Calhoun of Laona; sister, Judy Schmidt of Arizona; sisters-in-law, Ethel Calhoun of Laona and Shirley Johnson of Laona; grandchildren, Johnathon (Beth) Calhoun, Carrie (Mark) Ratty, Jaclynn (Tim) Murphy, Mark (Bobbie) Calhoun, Jennifer (Robert) McHugh, Clarrissa (Brian) Backler, Angela (Charlie) Calhoun, Maheen (Travis) Ott, Mina (Paul) Cleereman, Kristopher Retzlaff and Kathryn Retzlaff. He is further survived by fourteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ellen and Ina May Webb and two brothers, Robert and Ivan “Kylie.”
Visitation was held on Monday, July 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Weber-Hill Funeral Home in Crandon. Funeral services followed at 5 p.m. with Pastor Dennis Mannering and Pastor Wendy Mannering officiating. Interment was at the Cavour Cemetery. Military Honors were provided by the Forest County Veteran Honor Guard.
