There’s got to be blood on the typewriter, Victoria Houston has finished the ninth book in her Loon Lake Mystery series. Houston will bring her book, Dead Hot Shot, to Joan Belongia’s Brown Street Books in downtown Rhinelander on Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Houston’s new book is a mix of mayhem, murder and fishing in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Houston’s love for her Wisconsin setting and her knack for characters is evident in her series. Houston grew up in Rhinelander, graduated from Rhinelander High School and lives on a lake east of the city.

Dead Hot Shot takes place one wintry Thanksgiving Day in Loon Lake, where murder never takes a holiday. Chief of Police Lew Ferris, short-handed thanks to an AWOL coroner, never even gets the turkey stuffed before the bodies start to surface. By the end of the day, credit card theft and dysfunctional families have so muddied the waters that not even expert tracker and dedicated fishing guide Ray Pradt can hope to fish the final day of muskie season.

And while retired dentist Doc Osborne had counted on sitting by the fire with Lew and planning a fly-fishing trip to Wyoming, the unexpected arrival of Gina Palmer, former investigative reporter turned forensics database expert, ramps up the action with her pursuit of a Canadian link to the theft of merchandise from stores across the upper Midwest.

Victoria Houston will be at Brown Street Books on Saturday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. She will sign her books, which will be available for purchase. For more information contact Brown Street Books at 362-5111 or brnstbks@newnorth.net.
