(Popple River News) - Not much rain for Popple River this week, only 0.3 of an inch and that was on Friday, but it put a foot of water in the rain barrel. The other rains didn't even register in the rain gauge. Surrounding areas received much more. Every little bit helps.

Visitors to the area were scarce again this week in Popple River. There was a gang at the old Reinhard cabin, sorry I don't know their name. Dave Stanke and wife were at their cabin, as was Jim Zernzach and his son. Jim is always building on his place when he is here and takes a little time out for recreation. Jeff Van Boxel was here for a fishing weekend and some chores around the cabin. Paul and Vergil Schultz were again at their place, as were Larry Van Boxel and Lynn for five days.

The town meeting will be held on July 8 at 7 p.m. at the Popple River Town Hall and all are welcome.

July birthdays are Bonnie Lewis on the 1st; Vince Ruby on the 3rd, Mike Stanz and Allan Stranz on the 4th; Bob Nelson on the 5th; Mike Stranz (grandson of Allan) on the 5th; Jeff Walli on the 7th; Jeff Peters and Gerry Rhoades on the 12th; James Rhoades on the 13th; Marilyn Glime on the 16th; Ellsworth (Shorty) Hoyt on the 20th; Steve Licitar on the 22nd; Barb Rasmussen on the 26th; Cole Walli and Kevin Huben on the 29th; Diane Gastrau on the 30th and Leandra Nichols on the 31st.

July wedding anniversaries are Yogi and Bonnie Chase, 26 years, on the 24th and Jan and Bill Lange, 56 years, on the 29th. Congratulations to all on your special day and have a great day.

July 4th, Independence Day, another day to celebrate to the fullest. There will be lots of pretty fireworks displays to watch, if not only on television. I am sure there will be lots of bangs and pops during the day and evening. Have a safe and fun weekend.
