Arlyn M. Aschinger
Arlyn M. Aschinger, age 93, of Iron River, Mich., died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at the Iron River Care Center in Iron River. He was born October 11, 1914 in Argonne.
The son of the late Hugo and Susan (Koch) Aschinger attended the Laona schools graduating from the Laona High School in 1932. He also attended the Lumber School in Memphis, Tenn. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during W.W.II in the European Theater. He married the former Ruby Belland on June 24, 1946 at the St. Leonard's Church in Laona. The couple later moved to Iron River to make their home. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in 2007.
Arlyn was a lumber inspector with the Kingston Lumber Company in Stambaugh and then the Wenos Lumber Company of Iron River for many years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ottawa Post #3134 of Iron River.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby on December 1, 2007; his sister, Joyce Lambert; and brother, Winford.
He is survived by two sons, A. Michael (Carol) Aschinger, Jr. of Iron River and Alan J. Aschinger of Honolulu, Hawaii; two sisters, Dorothy Lambert of Laona and Genevieve Rogers of Crandon; two grandchildren, Michael and Kathleen and nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Monday, June 16, 2008 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River. Funeral Services were held Monday, June 16, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River with Rev. Aloysius Hasenberg to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment was at Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River. The West Side Veterans Council accorded Military Rites. Pallbearers were Aryln’s nephews.

Gladys Mabel Jackson
Gladys Mabel Jackson, age 86, of Pickerel, died Monday, June 16, 2008 at the Villa Pines Living Center in Friendship.
Funeral services were 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at the Roseberry's Funeral Home in Friendship. Rev. Kelli L. Fisher officiated. Interment will be at a later date at the Arburtus Lutheran Cemetery in Pearson. Visitation was at 3 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at Roseberry's Funeral Home.
Gladys was born September 4, 1921 in Pearson to August and Bertha (Schwade) Kussman. She grew up and graduated from school in Pearson. Gladys married Joseph M. Jackson on February 8, 1941 in Antigo. The couple made their home in Pickerel. Gladys worked mostly as a cook at various places in the Pickerel area.
Gladys enjoyed her garden and flowers, creating wood crafts with her husband Joe, baking for family and watching her family play baseball.
Gladys was a member of the Arburtus Lutheran Church and its ladies group. She also organized a girls group in Pickerel.
Gladys was preceded in death by parents; husband, Joseph; daughter, Judy Selenske; brother, Herbert; and three sisters, Dorothy, Alma and Elsie.
She is survived by sons, David (Darlyn) Jackson of Pickerel, Donald (Danneale) Jackson of Coloma and Charles (Laura) Jackson of Pickerel; son-in-law, Ronald Selenske of Coloma; grandchildren, Richard (Terri) Jackson, Lori (Bud) Palazzolo, Thomas (Sue) Jackson, Dean Jackson, Rhonda (David) Nachtigall, John (Jennifer) Selenske, Mary Jo (Kurt) Langenecker, Jacque (Warren) Krause, Shannon Jackson and Lee Ann Jackson; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Eldo Gorr
Eldo Gorr, age 79, of Newton, Iowa; formerly of Kenosha, died on Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
Cremation has taken place and Celebration of Life services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at the Wellspring Community Church in Hartford. Memorials for the Wellspring Community Church in Hartford may be sent to the Wellspring Community Church, P. O. Box 270253, Hartford, WI 53027.
The son of Kenneth Gorr and Gladys (Burger) Gorr Larrabee, Eldo was born on January 28, 1929 in Crandon. On December 24, 1949, Eldo was united in marriage to Harriet M. Blomquist in Gary, Ind. He had worked has an electronic technician for 50 years, retiring in 1992. Eldo served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Prior to moving to Newton in February of this year, he had lived in Kenosha for 30 years, Mesa, Ariz. for six years and Hartford for five years.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet of Newton; two sons, Garry (Cookie) Gorr of Racine and Darren (Cara) Gorr of Kenosha; daughter, Eydie (Jeff) Smolik of Newton, Iowa; his nine grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; brother, Darrell (Sharie) Gorr of Caldwell, Idaho; and two sisters, Darlene (Dean) Ellis of Crown Point, Ind. and Jackie Frost of Queens Creek, Ariz.
Benjamin Alexander Max
Benjamin Alexander Max, age 95, of Green Bay, formerly of Jennings, (Crandon), passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008. Ben was born March 8, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Joseph and Anna Mary (Sulducka) Max.
Ben moved to the Township of Jennings at a very young age. After graduation Ben worked a few years at Connor Lumber & Land of Laona.
Ben met Ruth Robison at the age of 13 and vowed to marry her. After a long courtship of 15 years, they married on June 1, 1941.
After the death of Ben’s mother, Anna, they purchased the family homestead from his father, Joseph, and established a dairy farm which he operated for 40 years. In the spring of 1980 they both retired, Ruth from teaching and Ben from farming. Together they raised two children, Dell and Anna Marie. In 1997 sold their home at Jennings to their granddaughter, Coleen and moved to North Port, Florida. Ruth passed away in 1998 and Ben remained in Florida for three years. He moved back to Wisconsin to live with his daughter, Anna Marie due to health problems. The last ten months he resided at Village Gardens in Green Bay.
He is survived by son, Dell (Eileen) Max of Jennings; daughter, Anna Marie Swainson and special friend, Tom Fannin of Green Bay; three grandchildren, Shane, Nadeen and Coleen; and four great-grandchildren, Madison, MacKenzi, Drew and Ellie; brother, Pete (Marilyn) Max of California; and brother-in-law, Al Scharpou of Chicago, Ill.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Ruth, he is also preceded in death by an infant brother and brothers, Walter and Phil; and a sister, Valeria.
Visitation was on Sunday, June 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Weber-Hill Funeral Home of Crandon. Visitation was also on Monday, June 16 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Crandon with services following 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Michael Herdt officiating. Interment was at Crandon Lakeside Cemetery.
