Camp Five Logging Museum’s Lumberjack Steam Train will make its first ride on Thursday, June 19 rain or shine. However, this year the historic logging museum will feature two new attractions, a simulated logging camp bunkhouse and a historic box car with open air seating.

Visitors to the camp will get the opportunity to see what life in the old logging camps was really like in the new bunkhouse, which will feature archeological artifacts.

Camp Five workers Ron Hartman, Pete Widucki and Dave Belland have been working hard to fix up a vintage box car that was formerly used by the Connor Lumber Mill to transport sawdust.

“We are turning the box car into an open observation car,” said Hartman, Camp Five Round House Manager. “It’s a huge job and heavy work.”

To renovate this box car to be a “passenger” car, Hartman, Widucki and Belland had to repair the weather damage to the flooring. Benches will run down the center of the car, according to Hartman, and slots will be put between the wall boards so passengers riding in the car can see the scenery. The car will seat approximately 70 people, offering some much needed extra seats on the Lumberjack Steam Train during the popular Cowboy Re-enactments and Fall Festival later in the season.

They have to repair weather damage to flooring and build benches for along the center of the car. When completed, the boxcar will seat approximately 70 people. The boxcar, along with a logging camp bunkhouse will be among the new features at Camp Five this summer. Camp Five opens Thursday.
