Community : Spring is finally here!
Pat Pfeiffer - Correspondent
(Hiles News) - I think spring finally got here! Yay! Remember that the quick shifts in conditions this time of year can bring about some active weather. Be sure to keep an eye on the local forecasts, to be prepared for the storms, and aware of any tornado watches. It might be good to talk over plans for shelter, and so forth, with your family.
It might also be good to have a “plan B” lined up for lighting and meal prep in case you should find yourselves without electric power. And be prepared with stories and games to keep the kids occupied. I know our kids always enjoyed such “emergencies” when they could get their dad to tell them how things were back in the “good old days” when people could live without things like TV and video games.
Service Club Gears up for Craft Bazaar
At the meeting last Thursday of the Hiles Service Club the main topic was preparations for the June 21 Craft Show and Bazaar. There will be food, and new this year will be deliciously decadent brownie sundaes. You won’t want to miss these! The group has set aside Friday, June 20 as a work day, starting at 9 a.m. to make final preparations for the event. While this is their first craft show, the Service Club has some very fine local crafters lined up for the show. So even though this is a small show, it promises to be a good one. With this as their learning experience year, they plan to have an even better show in following years. But this first one is definitely one you will want to attend. The Club is planning some unique touches to make this a fun day for everyone. One of them is a drawing for a basket of gifts donated by the various crafters.
The other topic under discussion was the food booth at the Firemen’s Trap Shoot coming up in July. The Service Club will be providing the food again for that event. The Club also welcomed new member, Andrea Childers.
Red Hatters Make Plans for June
The Hiles Hattitude met at Pine Lake Pub last Thursday evening to hear plans for the June outing from hostesses Leigh Travis and Colette Guth. They have arranged for the group to attend the play by the local amateur theater group at Three Lakes High School. The date picked when most of the members will be able to participate is Friday, June 19. The group will meet at Pine Lake Pub to leave by 4:30 to go to the eating establishment that the hostesses will choose for dinner and then proceed to the play. Once again, Red Hat member Colette Guth’s son-in-law, Patrick Nickel, has a major role in the play.

June Dairy Snack
This recipe again comes from the 3-a-day Web site, and is a tasty way to get a serving of dairy. It’s a low-fat, lower calorie version of fried Mozzarella sticks.
Baked Mozzarella Sticks
Makes 6 servings
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 6 minutes
Ingredients
1 (12-ounce) package reduced-fat Mozzarella string cheese
1 egg
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
8 tablespoons panko (Japanese) bread crumbs
1/2 cup prepared marinara sauce, warmed (optional)
Position rack in upper third of oven and preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with foil and spray lightly with cooking spray.
Remove cheese from packaging and set aside. In a small bowl, whisk egg until foamy. In small non-stick skillet, mix Italian seasoning with bread crumbs and place over medium heat. Cook and stir bread crumbs until lightly browned, about 5 minutes.
Dip one piece of string cheese in egg until coated and then into toasted bread crumbs, coating completely. Redip the string cheese in egg and again into the bread crumbs, if desired. Place on baking sheet. Repeat with remaining string cheese and place on baking sheet 1 1/2 inches apart. Spray string cheese lightly with cooking spray.
Bake 5-6 minutes or until heated through. (Cheese may melt slightly and lose shape. Simply press it back into place.)
Suggested serving: Pair with warmed marinara sauce for dipping.

Some Words About Dads
“A father is a fellow who has replaced the currency in his wallet with the snapshots of his kids.”
“Good fathers make good sons.”
“Every father should remember that one day his son will follow his example instead of his advice.”
“My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard. Mother would come out and say, "You're tearing up the grass"; "We're not raising grass," Dad would reply. "We're raising boys." – Harmon Killebrew “
My dad always used to tell me that if they challenge you to an after-school fight, tell them you won't wait-you can kick their a** right now.” – Cameron Diaz
