Crandon Lions President Sandi Gunther recently presented a check for $4,000 to the Wisconsin Eye Bank of Madison. The Eye Bank accepts and prepares eye corneas from donors and delivers them to hospitals around the Midwest.

There are 2,400 transporters or volunteers to deliver the corneas at a moment’s notice to hospital operating rooms for implantation.

President of the Eye Bank and Lion Del Plank, who accepted the check along with Lion Gerry Rabbach, mentioned that the day after the Crandon meeting four corneas would be delivered and implanted in patients’ eyes to restore their sight.

The Madison Eye Clinic also provided two corneas last fall for Zaharaa, the little girl from Iraq, a project that the Crandon Lions Club spearheaded.
