(Nu-Roc News) - Mother Nature has done it again. The residents at Nu-Roc Community Healthcare have been enjoying her beauty. Our grounds are beautiful this time of year; we have flowering trees and shrubs, acres of green grass and wildlife. Nu Roc staff has been busy planting colorful flowers, the hummingbirds are back and we are enjoying every minute of it.

We started the month of May by hosting Mrs. Bobbe’s 4th grade class from Laona. The kids arrived with a May basket for everybody and we played Wisconsin “Jingo.” It was their last visit for the year so we’ll miss seeing them but hope they have a wonderful summer.

For the past few years, the Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo has gotten a lot of attention. We decided to celebrate it at Nu-Roc. We played some games and indulged in nachos and margaritas. It’s definitely a fun tradition.

A big thank you goes out to the Laona High School junior class. Before their prom, they all came out so we could admire their dresses, hairdos and tuxedos. They paraded down the hallways, posed for pictures and visited with whoever wanted to. This was a very special treat for our residents, one we won’t soon forget. The kids are to be congratulated for remembering us on their special day.

Mother’s Day brought a special Catholic service delivered by Deacon Harold of St. Ambrose Church in Wabeno. Refreshments and visitation followed. Each lady and staff member received a corsage to help them feel special. There were many visitors that day, and many grateful smiles.

Of course, the following week we celebrated National Nursing Home Week. Many residents took advantage of our morning at the spa. After all, who doesn’t like to be pampered? We enjoyed the singing and entertainment provided by Straight Jacket DJs from Crandon and built banana splits with ice cream donated by DeHart Dairy.

For our monthly dinner club outing, we attended the Annual Fish Fry at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. The ladies of the parish really outdid themselves. In addition to all the great food, we got to visit with old friends that we haven’t seen in a while. We rode back home feeling well fed and happy.

Abracadabra! We had magic. Gizmo the magician from Green Bay had been here in January. He likes us so much that he volunteered to come back this month. His show was amazing and thankfully, he didn’t make anybody disappear.

Our monthly birthday party was hosted by the Wabeno Senior Citizens Group. It was so much fun. Our thanks to them for spending time with us.

We at Nu-Roc Community Healthcare are looking to summer and all the fun and excitement that goes along with it. If you would like to share your time or a talent with us, please call.

‘We’re keeping our fingers crossed’ Tourism industry off to a slow start
The schools in the cities are just letting out for the summer yet, so we don’t know for sure what the summer will bring in terms of visitors to the area. With the schools running later in the spring and opening earlier in the fall, and with many taking shorter vacations, the tourist season has been compressed to six or eight weeks from the middle of June to the middle of August at the latest.
