The Forest County Zoning Office would like to pass along a few code changes that become effective on June 1, 2008.

Wisconsin Act 208 requires that a well inspection for the transfer of property, or a well abandonment, be performed by a licensed well driller or licensed pump installer.

High capacity wells will now need a permit. A high capacity well is described as one or more wells, drill holes or mine shafts on a property that have a combined approved pump capacity of 70 or more gallons per minute. A property is defined as contiguous or adjacent land having the same owner.

An individual may not fill or seal a water supply well unless one of the following applies:

• The individual is a licensed well driller or licensed pump installer

• The individual is under the supervision of a licensed well driller or licensed pump installer or the individual is under the supervision of a water system operator certified under s. 281.17 (3) and the well is within the service area of the local governmental water system for which the certified operator works. The licensed or certified individual is not required to be present during the filling or sealing.

• The individual is a water system operator certified under s. 281.17 (3) and the well is within the service area of the local governmental water system for which the individual works.
