Forest County Health Department May Activities – Childhood (Free) Immunization Clinics will be held Monday, May 19 at the Laona Town Hall from 3:30 to 4 p.m.; Tuesday, May 20 at the Wabeno Town Hall from 3:30 to 4 p.m.; and Wednesday, May 28 at the County Health Department in the Courthouse in Crandon from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Call (715) 478-3371 for an appointment. Free Blood Pressure Clinic will be held Wednesday, May 28 at the Crandon City Hall (Community Building) from 11 to 11:30 a.m.
Crandon Middle School and High School End of the Year Concert will be held Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at the Crandon School.
Senior Snoop Shop will open Friday, May 23. Entry days are May 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the shop.
Presentations on Osteoporosis and Physical Activity and Exercise will be held Tuesday, May 20 at the Health and Wellness Center’s lower conference room from 10 a.m. to noon in honor of National Arthritis Month. Door prizes, hand-outs, information on arthritis related topics and healthy snacks will be available at this free event. Call 478-4344 in advance to register as seating is limited.
Girl Scout Troop 507, along with Pantene, is hosting a Beautiful Lengths Pony Tail Drive on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wabeno High School. Hair donated will be made into free wigs for women battling cancer. You must have a minimum of eight inches of hair available to donate. Oak Hills Christian College choir will perform a concert at Lake Lucerne Gospel Chapel, 5132 Jaeger Rd. in Crandon, on Tuesday, May 20 at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend this event. Call Pastor Don Dewing at 478-2677 for more information.
Crandon Senior League Softball tryouts will be held Sunday, May 18 at 5 p.m. at the high school ball fields. Any girl age 13 through 15 are welcome to tryout. Even if you played on a team last year, you need to be there. Call Kate Schultz at 478-2824 or Brian Tupper at 649-3279 for more information.
Big 4+ Sportsman’s Club will be holding a Hunter’s Education course June 10 through 14 at their clubhouse on Settlement Road in Long Lake. The course is open to the general public. To register, call Skip Ritchie at (715) 674-3033.
Flea markets will be held in downtown Wabeno starting in May. They will be held on Fridays through September.
Crandon Fire Department 4th of July celebration will begin Friday night with a street dance on Friday, July 4. The King or Queen will be crowned at 8:30 that evening. The traditional parade will begin at noon on Saturday, July 5. Fireworks will be displayed in Palmer Park at dusk (weather permitting) on Saturday, July 5. Tickets for King and Queen hopefuls to sell can be found at Flowers from the Heart in Crandon.

Q: I have been reading some articles in outdoor magazines that describe how to build a wooden boat out of plywood and epoxy. I plan on making a 12-foot pram style boat with my grandson and giving it to him for his 12th birthday. I also want to place an electric motor or small gas motor on the boat.
