Community : Despite predictions, weekend weather not so bad
Marion Soch - Correspondent
(Popple River News) - The fishing opener wasn't too bad after all; the rains quit on Saturday afternoon for quite awhile. I didn't hear any fishing reports though. It didn't appear there were a great number of folks around for the opener with such a lousy weather prediction.
Earlier in the week, Larry Van Boxel and Lynn were here working on their water system at the cabin for several days.
The Konitzers were here again working on their camp wood for sale. Wayne likes to pound out the wood.
Dan and Dale Gerlikovski are here on a brother's bonding week. They enjoyed a ride Sunday evening and said they saw one bear. They said they probably will take the boat out for a ride sometime this week. I spoke with them while I was out planting my new Colorado spruce seedlings from Arbor Day. I guess you could say I was celebrating Wisconsin Arbor Day a little late, since it was almost too cold to plant on the true Arbor Day. The buds could have froze.
This is a busy time, as all the plants are waking up and transplanting and planting time is here. I received a very nice red oak tree bare rootstock to plant also. I always wanted an oak tree in the yard and someone was very nice to present me with one. Now I have to find the perfect place to put it to watch it grow.
We observed two rose breasted male grosbeaks at the feeders on Saturday, the first arrivals. Such beautiful birds!
Next week is Mother's Day, so it is her day to be remembered and honored.
May birthdays are Marion Soch on May 10; Florence Fondell on May 11; Al Huben, Jake Jacobson and Joyce Labetzke on May 12; Wally Mueller, Larry Van Boxel and Annette Rhoades on May 15; Steve Rocheleau and Harry Hameister on May 16; Jan Vanden Langenberg on May 19; Barb Schneider on May 22; Craig Burman on May 24; and Millie Dominski and Ed Soch on May 27.
May wedding anniversaries are Tootie and Barb Schneider, 54 years, on May 15; Kathy and Joe Macaluso, 44 years, on May 19; Larry and Gail Cunningham on May 23; and Rhonda and Chuck Weronke on May 29.
May you all have a wonderful day on your special day.
