Alice H. Schaenzer

Alice H. Schaenzer, age 94, of Wabeno, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital of Rhinelander on March 26, 2008.

A native of Wabeno, Alice was born on February 6, 1914 to the late George and Lillian (Goldy) Neider. She graduated from Wabeno High School, class of 1931. Her education at the University of Wisconsin – Madison ended after one year due to the Great Depression. She graduated from Green Bay Business College and worked in Green Bay and Milwaukee. After 15 years of living in Milwaukee, she met her high school love, Sylvester Schaenzer, at a class reunion and married him in Milwaukee on June 18, 1949.

Alice moved back to Wabeno with Sylvester, worked at Schlafke’s Bakery and as a secretary at Wabeno High School, retiring in 1977. She also was one of the founders of the United Area Rescue Squad, assisting with the accounting for 20 years. Alice enjoyed traveling with her husband, visiting all the states except Rhode Island and Hawaii. She was a faithful member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church.

Alice is survived by her husband, Sylvester Schaenzer; one son, George (Diane) Schaenzer of Duluth, Minn.; one granddaughter, Ann Schaenzer of Duluth, Minn.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lincoln “Bub” Neider; and one sister, Gladys Conner.

Visitation was held on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the Suminski Funeral Home in Wabeno, (715) 473-3131, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. The parish wake service will be at 6:30 p.m. The visitation continued on Monday, March 31 at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. The funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wabeno with Father David Schmidt officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Honoring Alice as pallbearers are Willard Ehlinger, Ray Ehlinger, Larry Wolfgram, Jan Volk, Dennis Larson and George McEwen. Evelyn E. Manning

Evelyn E. Manning, age 82, passed away at her son’s home in Wallace, Mich. on March 26, 2008. Born in Manitowoc on May 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Edna (Chouinard) Carley. After graduating from Manitowoc High School in 1943 she worked for the F.B.I. in Washington, D.C. Evelyn returned to Manitowoc and met James A. Manning, a submarine sailor. Thirteen days later, on March 21, 1945, they were married and celebrated 52 years together.

They adopted their son, James and daughter, Pam and lived in Iron River, Mich. where they owned and operated Manning’s Car Crusher. In 1974 they moved to Crivitz and James preceded her in death on March 14, 1998.

Evelyn is survived by a son, James E. (June) Manning of Wallace, Mich.; a daughter, Pamela; two grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Anne Carley; a nephew, Robert of Tuscon, Ariz.; and her pet cat, Claus.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Clarence Carley.

Funeral services were held at Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home, 331 S. Ellis Ave. in Peshtigo (715-582-3834) at 7 p.m Friday, March 28.

Dorothy Barbara Riemer (Trost)

Dorothy Barbara Riemer (Trost), age 77, of Hiles and Waukesha, found peace Sunday, March 30, 2008, at home surrounded with family by her side. Dorothy was born, January 10, 1931, to John and Hattie Trost in Milwaukee.

She married Robert Riemeron March 10, 1950.

Dorothy was the beloved wife of Robert “Bob” Riemeron and dear mother of Jeff, Jace (Jodi), Barbara Congemi (nee Riemer) and Linda (Stan) Boebel. She is survived by grandchildren, Devrey, Danielle, James (Lynette), Joshua (Leah) and Jennifer Riemer, David (Shelley) and Cory Congemi, Jesse and Clinton (Kristen) Crouse; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Jade Riemer, Gabby and Noah Congemi and Allie Boebel; brother, Howard (June) Trost; sister, Marion (Don) Koch; and sister-in-law, Jeanette (Gilbert) Preuss. She is additionally survived by other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; father and mothers-in-law; sisters, Elaine and Alyce; and grandson, Robert.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 3, 2008 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Weber-Hill Funeral Home in Crandon. Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bill Farr officiating. Interment will be on Friday, April 4, 2008 at noon at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield. Weber-Hill Funeral Home in Crandon, (715) 478-2322, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Ethel Spencer

Mrs. Ethel Spencer, age 85, of Franklin, formerly of Alvin, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at her home. She was born April 13, 1922 in Middletown, Ohio.

The daughter of the late Garrett and Mary Fannie (Staton) Minton attended the Ohio schools. She married Zack Spencer and the couple moved to Alvin in 1981. After the death of her husband, Zach on March 29, 1999, she moved to reside close to her children.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Elsie Stapleton.

She is survived by a son, Allan (Dawn) Spencer of Waterford; two daughters, Linda (Randy) Scharfenberger of Milwaukee and Diane (Bill) Jamieson of Madison; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 3, 2008 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River, Mich. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River, Mich. with the Rev. Herman Spencer to officiate. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Alvin.

Richard Dennis Gilligan, Jr. “Richie”

Richard Dennis Gilligan, Jr., “Richie”, age 40, of Laona, passed away unexpectedly as a result of a motor vehicle accident on Sunday, March 30, 2008. Richie was born March 28, 1968 in Laona, the son of Richard and Francie (Collins) Gilligan.

Richie graduated from Laona High School in 1986, and joined the U.S. Army serving a term of 3 years. While on leave in December 1986 he married his high school sweetheart, Tammy Krawze.

Richie was a volunteer driver for the Laona Rescue Squad. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Nascar and his dog, Jake. Richie was loved and will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews.

He is survived by wife, Tammy of Laona; daughters, Kaila (Brian) Colvin of Fort Campbell, Ky. and Brittany Gilligan of Laona; mother, Francie (Jim) Gilligan of Laona; sister, Kerry (Kevin) Kerner of Laona; brother, Shawn “Bub” (Hope Sturzl) Gilligan of Laona and Brett Gilligan of Laona; and step-brother, Jamie Gilligan of Illinois.

Richie is preceded in death by his father, Richard on February 23, 1993; grandmother, Jovelet Whitens; great-grandmother, Florence Collins; uncle, Mike Whitens and brother-in-law, Dick Belland.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 2 from 10 a.m. until noon at St. Leonard Catholic Church in Laona. Funeral mass will follow at noon with Father John Cerkas officiating. Interment will be at the Laona Cemetery. Military honors provided by the Forest County Veteran Honor Guard.

Weber-Hill Funeral Home of Crandon assisted the family with arrangements.
