(Nu-Roc News) - It’s spring....finally! The month of March was filled with fun activities for the resident’s of Nu-Roc Community Healthcare, and many of them were all about the new season.

We owe a big thank you to Deacon Harold and his wife, Lou. Deacon serves at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wabeno. In honor of the American Cancer Society’s daffodil days, they remembered us with bunches and bunches of that favorite spring flower. The dining room tables, lounge area and even some offices came alive with color as the blooms opened. The daffodils remained gorgeous and brightened our moods for over a week.

Lindsey Thomaschfsky from Argonne made a surprise visit one morning. Her grandma lives with us and Lindsey has entertained us before with her musical talent. This time, however, she showed up with bags of Easter treats for all the residents. Needless to say, she’s welcome here anytime.

Our dinner club this month took on a “spring fling” theme. The food was provided by Pichotta’s Pub and Grub in Wabeno. We ate broasted chicken and broasted potatoes. The potatoes were something that many people hadn’t eaten before but definitely want to have again. Our next dinner club will be an outing to a local restaurant, as hopefully, the snow melts and the weather warms up.

Mrs. Bobbe’s 4th graders from Laona made their bi-monthly visit. As always, our residents eagerly awaited their arrival. The kids are boisterous, enthusiastic and eager. This time they helped us make leprechauns that we later used to decorate the dining room. They also brought us each a cup of St. Patty’s green grass. What a treat after seeing snow all winter. As usual, the kids had to return to school way too soon.

The month brought the Christian Mother’s from St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Laona out for our birthday party. They came with coin filled eggs, laughter and conversation. After several games of bingo, it was time for cake and ice cream. Thank you ladies.

We also had a pretty wild St. Patrick’s Day party. This was hosted by the Nicolet Area AARP from Lakewood and Townsend. They came with many wonderful desserts, party hats and noisemakers. We all enjoyed green beer and games. This group does a lot for us and we are very grateful.

Some of the students form Blackwell Job Corps Center volunteered to help us color Easter Eggs. This has become an annual tradition and one that we all look forward to. Some of our ladies made little Easter baskets to put the eggs in. They looked as good as they tasted.

Our Easter services were said by Dennis Larsen of Northwoods Bible Fellowship. He was kind enough to fill in at the last minute due to the illness of the scheduled speaker. Thank you, Dennis, for letting us have church services on Easter Sunday.

By popular demand, we also had another spa day. Our resident’s enjoyed manicures, foot massages and back rubs. Our dining room was turned into a “resort” for a few hours, complete with special snacks and beverages.

So now we are looking forward to the snow melting and the days getting warmer. We started sunflower seed in little pots that we’ll plant outside later, then use as centerpieces for our senior picnic. Of course, we can’t wait to go out and feel the warm sun and enjoy the beauty of spring.

Thanks to all who remembered us this month, we always welcome your visits.
