James L. Linder
James L. Linder, age 50, of Fence, Wisconsin died Monday, March 10, 2008, at his home.
He was born September 25, 1957, in Hartford, Wisconsin, son of the late Lawrence and Bernadette Linder. James was raised in Slinger and graduated from Slinger High School. He remained in Slinger until 1988, when he moved to Goodman. James was employed for 11 years at Caswell Lumber Company, and also worked on many log home projects in the area.
James enjoyed woodworking, his family and friends and especially joking around.
He is survived by one brother, Larry (Rosanne) of West Bend; three sisters, Judi (James) Horner of West Bend, Mary Schmeling of Milwaukee, and Pat (Stan) Washburn of Slinger; special friend, Angel Grimmer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother, Paul.
Visitation was held Friday, March 14, 2008, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A time of reflection was offered 6:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Goodman in the spring.

Marian L. Butterfield “Nio gab wi kew”
Marian L. Butterfield "Nio gab wi kwe" which means "Lady that stood 4 days", age 63, of Suring, formerly of the Crandon area, died Monday, March 10, 2008 at the Langlade Memorial Hospital Antigo. She was born in Hayward, Wisconsin on April 24, 1944 to Clifford and Mabel (Alloway) Soman.
Marion married Harry Butterfield in Spooner, Wisconsin on September 26, 1981; he preceded her in death on January 31, 2004. Through life, Marion worked as a beautician and cosmetologist. She was known for her love of dogs and cats. Everyone loved her fry bread. Marion will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Stacy (Richard) Trzebiatowski of Antigo; son, Andrew VanZile of Mole Lake; many grandchildren; and sisters, Marie Deverney of Blackwell, Maxine Deverney of Watersmeet, Mich. and Gloria Deverney of Wabeno.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; son, Joseph; sister, Margaret; and brothers, Francis, Ira, Clifford and Archie Biddell.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 after 3 p.m. at the Potawatomi Cultural Center. Native American Service was on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Potawatomi Cultural Center. Mr. Billy Daniels led the services. Interment was in the St. Francis Cemetery in Red Cliff.

Martha Lou Smith
Martha Lou Smith, age 73, of Fence, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, in Armstrong Creek.
She was born December 6, 1934, in Fence, daughter of the late Edward and Katherine (Moller) Thomas. In 1951 she married William Nichols. He preceded her in death in 1966. On October 28, 1978, in Kingsford, Mich., she married Kenneth Smith. He survives.
Martha attended school in Fence and lived most of her life there except for some time in Cudahy. In Cudahy she worked for the Public Schools. Martha was a waitress at the former Kusmitch Restaurant in Florence and did housekeeping in area homes and also cared for young children in her home. She was a volunteer and served meals to seniors at the Fence Town Hall. Being an avid cook, anyone visiting or near Martha was fed. She enjoyed her garden of vegetables and flowers, sewing, crocheting, berry picking, fishing, rebating, playing cards and the domino game "chicken feet".
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Smith of Fence; one daughter, Virginia (Gene) Keen of Wausau; six sons, Donald (Bonnie) Nichols of Merrill, Wayne (Dorothy) Nichols of Florence, Edward (Rose) Nichols of Peshtigo, Phillip Nichols of Fence, Glen Nichols of Spread Eagle and Michael (Carol) Nichols of Cudahy; two step-children, David (Candice) Smith of Aurora, Colo. and Virginia Smith of Milwaukee; three sisters, Laverne Moddie of Armstrong Creek, Doris Schuirmann of Iron Mountain, Mich. and Betty (Ben) Janczewski of Armstrong Creek; two brothers, Patrick (Joanne) Thomas of Armstrong Creek and Walter (Doris) Thomas of Norway, Mich. She is further survived by 21 grandchildren, Jesse, Joshua, Jill, Sherry, James, Gregory, Hope, David, Johnathan, Adam, Teresa, William, Steven, Katie, Tammi, Jeff, Luke, Becky, Beth, Jenny and Craig; 11 great-grandchildren, Briar, Hannah, Sidney, Jaron, Dani, Aaliyah, Trey, Dominic, Kylynn, Leah and Branden; three step-grandchildren, Daniel, Michael and Roseann; and one great step-grandchild, Zoey.
Besides her parents and husband, William Nichols, she was preceded in death by, three sisters, Marion Meress, Lorraine Neuens and Ruth Olive; one brother, William Thomas; one grandchild, Christopher Michael; and one great-grandchild, Analiyah.
Visitation was 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2008, at Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home in Florence and again Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Fence Bible Church in Fence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Rev. Timothy Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the spring at Hillside Cemetery, the Fence.

Genevieve “Gee Gee” Strelow
Genevieve "Gee Gee" Strelow, age 80, of Loves Park, Illinois was born to eternal life Friday, March 7, 2008. Gee Gee was born to this life Aug. 28, 1927 in a log cabin to Peter and Mary (Janik) Czech in Armstrong Creek, Wisconsin, the youngest of six children.
She married Patrick Strelow on July 27, 1957 and resided in Chicago until their retirement to Wautoma. Pat preceded her in death on June 6, 1981. She is also preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Kathryn and Marie; and her brothers, Andy and Paul.
She is survived by her daughters, Noreen (Don) Jameson of Alexandria, Tenn. and Nancy (Andrew) Leppard of Wautoma; grandchildren, Laura, Jason, Aaron, Christy and Kelley; and great-granddaughter, Jacey. She is further survived by her sister, Helen Church of Niagara; very special niece, Lorraine Lesser of Machesney Park as well as numerous nieces, nephews, god-children and friends.

Norma Lorraine Jaskie (nee Lyke)
Norma Lorraine Jaskie (nee Lyke), age 88, of Crandon, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008 at the AGI Healthcare Center, Crandon. She was born August 9, 1919 in Oconomowoc to William and Martha (Kasch) Lyke.
When she was a year old, they moved to Argonne, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1938. After getting married to Earl Griffin and having a son, Billy, the marriage ended.
Norma then moved to Michigan and while working in a bakery; she met and married Jim Redburn. They moved back to Crandon, where they bought the Crandon Bakery. Jim and Norma worked together there and built a home and two cottages on the south end of Lake Lucerne. They rented out the cottages in summer to tourists and to teachers in the winter. After Jim passed away in 1967, Norma rented out the bakery and lived in the home with her dog, Ginger.
After dating Ed Jaskie for a couple of years, they married May 23 1970. They enjoyed life together, being active members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Norma belonging to the Ladies Aide and Ed being an usher both for a long time. Norma and Ed also enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, gambling, and baking her wonderful delights for the family for 36 years until the
passing of Ed in January 2006. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by son, Jim (Emma) Foley; grandson, Bruce (Sonya) and great-granddaughter, Tosha of Virginia; step-children, Jerry Jaskie of Crandon and Rose "Toots" (Paul) Alonzo of Oconomowoc, Kathy Hirschfield of Franklin and Gin (Steve) Craven of Sheboygan Falls; step-grandchildren, Nick (Sandy) Alonzo, Lon Jaskie, Ryan (Zelda) Jaskie, John (Robin) Hirschfield, Bucky Hirschfield, Viki Hirschfield, Jef Hirschfield and Cari Hirschfield; step-great-grandchildren, Jessie, Samantha, Kaitlyn, Austin, Akaiden, Makalie, Geno, Ian, Quinn, Rainey, Jake and Nikolas; cousin, Edward Ritter and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed; aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives.
Visitation was held on Friday, March 14, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Weber-Hill Funeral Home in Crandon and again on Saturday, March 15, 2008 from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Funeral Service will follow at 10 a.m. at the church with Pastor Eric Vertein officiating. Interment will be in the Crandon Lakeside Cemetery.

Edward David Godin, Sr.
Edward David Godin, Sr., age 85, of Laona, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 13, 2008. He was born September 20, 1922 in Laona to Jerry and Catherine (Gotz) Godin.
Ed liked to hunt, ice fish and sit in a lawn chair in the yard and enjoy the day. He was an excellent carpenter. Ed built his own home and also assisted with building many other homes in the area. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Mike (Susie) Godin, Steve (Mary) Godin, Brian (Cathy) Godin, Monica (Roger) Wilson and David (Tina) Godin; 12 grandchildren, Mike, Bill, Angie, Ryan, Andy, Jay, Jason, Lyndsey, Devin, Derek, Ian and Briana; 10 great-grandchildren: Bryan, Kelci, Ally, Jake, Judah, Elijah, Brendon, Mat, Emily and Brandon; special friends, Theresa (Ken) Novak; sister, Irene; and brother, Roy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lloyd and Erv; sister, Florence; and great-granddaughter, Keira.
Visitation was held on Sunday, March 16, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weber-Hill Funeral Home, Crandon and again on Monday, March 17, 2008 from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Leonard Catholic Church of Laona. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. with Father John Cerkas officiating. Interment will be in the Laona Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Forest County Veterans Honor Guard. Weber-Hill Funeral Home of Crandon is assisting the family with the arrangements.
