Outdoors : Backyard composting program to be held in Florence
An educational program open to the public on backyard composting will be held on March 20 at the Florence Natural Resource and Wild Rivers Interpretive. Backyard composting is easy and produces a great product for your garden. Simply put, composting is Mother Nature’s way of turning organic materials into dirt. What’s more, composting can be very easy.
With the right ingredients and a small amount of effort, anyone can make good usable compost for their yard and garden. Discover how to balance green and brown waste matter, turn and aerate the pile and monitor the heat to turn grass clippings, leaves and kitchen waste into rich compost in only a few weeks. Find out how to build your own compost bins and if activators really help. "Black Gold" is what many gardeners call compost. When used as a soil conditioner, compost can do great things. This program will be led by Kathy Bednarski, a veteran master composter and gardener.
This program will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the lower level conference room at the Florence Natural Resource and Wild Rivers Interpretive Center located on the corner of US Hwy. 2 and Hwy. 70 in Florence. The Environmental Stewardship Program Series are put on by the Friends of the Wild Rivers Interpretive Center and are open to the public and free of charge. For more information on this or any programs, contact Nathan Ruble in the Florence Natural Resource Center at (715) 528-5377 ext. 101.
