Community : Quiet in snowy Hiles
by Pat Pfeiffer - Correspondent
(Hiles News) - Things have been quiet here in snowy Hiles. We haven't been getting the terrible weather that folks south of us have gotten. Our precipitation has come in the form of pretty snowfalls (Maybe not so pretty to have to shovel, but very pretty to look at). Our roads have generally been in good driving condition all winter. Snowmobilers and skiers are happy with conditions, and ice fisherfolk have been getting on the lakes alright. But all the same, I think we'll all be glad to see spring get here.
On the Mend
A while back Hiles resident Dick Kaufman was on his way to the funeral of his brother in Minneapolis. He was near La Crosse when a patch of ice cut the trip short, and he never made it there. A bad accident put him in the hospital. Among other injuries, he broke a leg and cracked a couple vertebra.
He has been moved from the hospital to a health care center, where he will be recuperating for awhile. His neck will be in a brace for perhaps three months, and his leg is scheduled to be put in a cast after he sees his doctor in mid-March.
You can send him cards and letters at this address:
Richard Kaufman
Mulder Health Care Center
West Salem, WI 54669
He is in room number 105, and you can call him at (608) 786-1600.
Dick, your friends in Hiles all wish you a speedy recovery.

Football team appreciates support of the community
Parents, grandparents, uncles, families and friends, local businesses and Hodag football supporters: Due to your generosity our locker room pledge drive was a great success. Our goal was to raise $8,000 to $10,000 to purchase 40 lockers for our varsity locker room. We crushed this goal and raised enough money to purchase 100 lockers and the ability to have every male athlete in a new locker. These new lockers will allow us to secure our valuable equipment. In addition and I believe more important is that it shows our kids we care and will make the locker room less stressful. This facility has needed this improvement for three decades and you made it happen. Personally, I can not thank you enough for giving us the opportunity make this improvement for our students.
