It's a rematch in the hotly contested race for Forest/Florence County Circuit Court Judge.

Forest County District Attorney Leon Stenz and Judge Robert Kennedy Jr. were the winners of the Forest and Florence County judicial primary. Stenz and Kennedy faced off in the last judicial election in 2002, another highly contested race.

Both Stenz and Florence County District Attorney Doug Drexler threw their hats in the ring to face off against Kennedy. Each of the candidates came into the race with a wealth of experience in the court room.

Kennedy was the clear favorite in the primary, receiving 1283 votes in Forest County and 539 in Florence County for a total of 1822. He has served as circuit court judge in Forest and Florence Counties since 2002, traveling from one county to the other every week to hear cases.

His opponent in the spring election, Stenz, is certainly not without his merits, having served as Forest County district attorney since 1999.

Stenz also has experience as court commissioner and is on the board of directors for Judicare which offers free legal services for the poor. Stenz claimed that his experience as a district attorney would make him an ideal candidate for the position as judge.

“I'm fair and impartial, and I'd decided cases based on established law,” he said.

Stenz received 1,195 votes in Forest County and 247 votes in Florence County for a total of 1,442.

Drexler, the District Attorney for Florence County for 15 years as well as a private practice lawyer, received 370 votes in Forest County and 619 votes in Florence County for a total of 989. Drexler also serves as corporation counsel to Florence County.

Kennedy and Stenz will face each other in the April 1 spring election to determine who will be the circuit court judge in one of the biggest circuit court districts in the state.

Football team appreciates support of the community
Parents, grandparents, uncles, families and friends, local businesses and Hodag football supporters: Due to your generosity our locker room pledge drive was a great success. Our goal was to raise $8,000 to $10,000 to purchase 40 lockers for our varsity locker room. We crushed this goal and raised enough money to purchase 100 lockers and the ability to have every male athlete in a new locker. These new lockers will allow us to secure our valuable equipment. In addition and I believe more important is that it shows our kids we care and will make the locker room less stressful. This facility has needed this improvement for three decades and you made it happen. Personally, I can not thank you enough for giving us the opportunity make this improvement for our students.
