Nurse wants names of informants revealed
By Daily News Staff
A Rhinelander woman charged with illegally dispensing prescription medicine to eight individuals, resulting in the death of one person, is asking the government to disclose the names of confidential informants who will testify at her trial.
Candice Rosenberg, 60, of Rhinelander was a licensed nurse practitioner with the authority to write prescriptions for narcotics and other controlled substances. A federal indictment charges her with writing prescriptions outside the usual course of professional practice.
Nine counts of the indictment allege that from Feb. 3, 2005 to June 17, 2005, she dispensed oxycodone, morphine sulfate, and fentanyl to an individual referred to in the indictment as K.W.
One count alleges that on July 11, 2005, she dispensed 15 patches containing fentanyl to K.W., resulting in the death of K.W.
The other 72 counts of the indictment allege that in 2004 and 2005 Rosenberg dispensed oxycodone, fentanyl, morphine sulfate, hydrocodone and amphetamine to seven different individuals on multiple occasions.
Rosenberg entered not guilty pleas to all of the charges in November. She is scheduled to stand trial in April and last month her attorney filed a motion to compel the government to release the names of confidential informants that will testify during the trial.
A hearing on this and other defense motions is scheduled for Feb. 28 in United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin.
If convicted, Rosenberg faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 20 years and a maximum of life in federal prison for the count alleging the death of K.W. and a maximum of 20 years on each other 81 counts.
