Winners Abound!
(Hiles News) - There were a lot of winners last Saturday at the Hiles Fisheree. Many won some very nice prizes and money all through the day. Then, after 4 p.m., the prize money for the best fish was awarded. Followed by more prizes, including more cash.
Some of the winners included: Bass: Carrey Kukla, 21 1/2”. Perch: Keith Pease, 1 1/4 lbs, 11 1/2”. Blue Gill: B.J. Anderson, 7/8 lb. 9 3/4”. Crappie: Charlie Hinz 3/4 lb, 10 1/4”. Walleye: Tom Melvin,1 1/2 lb 17”. Northern Pike: Brian Danielczak, 6 1/2 lb 31 1/4”.
Prize drawings for the ice auger went to Randy Seifert, and the portable ice shack went to Carl Tauer. In the money raffle, the awards were as follows: $25-Todd Palubicki, $50-David Sprenger, $150-Tom Votis and $250-Mattie Stroik.
Anyone who had some of the hot chicken soup, chili, and brats and hot dogs were winners of some good eating. Many kids got a chance to go fishing with their parents, too, and that made them all winners. The weather also deserves a prize of thanks from all for being so mild. The fish cooperated by biting for a lot of lucky fisherfolk. If you were at the town hall, you probably got to visit with a lot of your friends and neighbors. All in all, a winning day for Hiles.
Read the Sign
You may have noticed the new sign, located behind the town hall, and visible from the highway. It is lit and has the dates of upcoming events in Hiles on it. Up until now it advertised the Fisheree, and continues to advertise the Craft Show and Bazaar coming up on June 21.
The sign was put up by the Hiles Service Club. If you have any events coming up that you need to notify th public about, check with Marlyn Pfeiffer, 649-3381, about getting them on the sign.
This is just one of the projects that the Hiles Service Club has undertaken. They raise money selling food at events like the Fisheree, the Firemen's Trap Shoot and others. They also use the money raised from the aluminum can collection. This year they are donating the proceeds from the cans to the Hiles Playground Committee. The can bin is located at the playground near the town garage on Highway 32. This is the only place where these cans are collected for this purpose. The cans that you take to the Hiles transfer station are not; those go to a private party's own collection. If you are debating where to drop off your aluminum cans, the Service Club and Playground Committee hope you will think about them. The site is easy to get to all year round, and all they ask is that you put only aluminum soda and beer cans in a plastic bag (Please, no glass, and nothing else!) and toss it into the bin.
Traveling Jar Lands in Hiles
The Traveling Jar is currently at Pine Lake Pub where everyone can donate their pennies and other coins or even more to help people battling breast cancer. The funds raised will be turned over to Packer great Leroy Butler this summer. When you visit the Pub, look for it on the bar, and maybe toss a few coins into the jar.
