Charter awarding scholarships
For 10 years, Charter Communications has sponsored student scholarships for graduating high school seniors.
The decade-old program is now accepting applications for the 2008 Charter Student Scholarships, which this year will award ten $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors in Charter communities.
“As the cost of education and the cost of living continues to rise, we believe that Charter's scholarships, an extension of our Cable in the Classroom program, are an important way we can support higher education for students in our communities,” said Lisa Washa, Charter's vice president and general manager for Wisconsin. “2008 is a milestone year for this highly successful program, so in our tenth year, we've increased the number of scholarships from four to ten,” said Washa.
Charter Scholarship applications are available online at 222.chartermainstreet.com, any Charter Communications office location or participating high schools.
To apply, applicants should be graduating seniors with at least a 2.8 grade point average with plans to attend an accredited college to pursue a degree in communications, marketing, business, accounting, computer technology, engineering or a related field. To qualify, applications must be returned to Charter Communications no later than March 31, 2008.
Charter works closely with schools across Wisconsin helping to promoted the student scholarships. Ron Stolzenburg, Director of Student Services at Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids, said “Lincoln High School has a process in place to ensure that the maximum number of students have an opportunity for scholarship money and the Charter Communications Scholarship application is well-designed, easy to access, and fits the needs and talents of a great number of our students.”
2007 Charter Communications Student Scholarship recipients were Andrew Heling of Sheboygan Lutheran High School, Tyler Knobeck of Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids, Ryan Barnett of Menomonie High School and Taylor Warden of Onalaska High School.
