Local artist, Betsy Popp of Townsend, formerly of Wabeno, is among those winning artists chosen to be published in “Best of America Pastel Artists and Artisans,” Volume I, published through Kennedy Promotions Publishing Company.

“The Best of Artists and Artisans” series of books was created in an effort to provide outstanding American artists greater exposure.

The “Best of Books” series celebrates the great artistic talent and diversity of artists through hosting art competitions and publishing the winners of beautiful books. Artists from all over the United States submit work that is juried, or chosen, among all works submitted to be included into the “Best of Books” series. The series includes a variety of artistic mediums such as oils, watercolors, sculpture and pastels, to name a few.

Popp's winning entry is an original pastel of her daughter Marissa entitled, “Reflections of Marissa.” Although the work is not for sale, this piece has traveled to a variety of pastel exhibitions. “Reflections of Marissa” was juried into “For Pastels Only on Cape Cod” in Massachusetts, and is currently on exhibit in the ‘Members Only' juried show hosted by the Great Lakes Pastel Society in Michigan. The ‘Members Only' exhibit is being held at the Toledo Museum of Fine Art in Toledo, Ohio.
