The Big Fish Let Loose at Little Duffy Lake
By Austin Staetzny
(September 25, 2007) - After school, myself, Hunter S. Mike and Mr. Lazzeroni went fishing at Little Duffy Lake. Before we went fishing we needed to go to Yaegers and we got refreshments. We also had to wait for Mr. Kelley. He had to get leeches and it seemed to take forever. Ten minutes later, we went to Little Duffy Lake.
When we got there, we put life jackets on an unloaded the boat by the dock. They were telling me to pull the boat, not push it out. Then we got in the boat and found a spot on the lake.
Mr. Lazzeroni told us all about the musky reel, the whole setup and everything we needed to know. Mr. Lazzeroni had set up poles for me and Mike. We casted for about 20 minutes. But before we casted, Mr. Lazzeroni set up a pole with a sucker and we named it Gary. Then we moved to the other side of the lake.
After 20 minutes and no bite, we heard a smack. It was a Northern, so Mr. Lazzeroni started reeling it in. He told Hunter to get the net, but by the time he looked back it was gone. Mr. Lazzeroni was mad!
We stayed there for about 30 minutes. Hunter then had a bite, it was a small Northern. Mr. Lazzeroni took pictures and let it go. Then we moved across the lake where Mr. Kelley was. We talked to him and went back to dock the boat and get the truck. We loaded the boat onto the trailer and left the lake. We had a great time!
Michael's First Musky
By Michael Lempel
(October 5, 2007) - Hi, my name is Michael Lempel. On October 2, I went on a fishing club trip to Roberts Lake near Wabeno with Brett Novak and the fifth grade teacher in Laona, Mr. Lazzeroni. We went on the lake about 4:30 p.m.
First Brett and I helped Mr. L. unload the boat. Then we got out on the lake and got ready. Mr. L. taught Brett and I how to cast. We fished the north half of the lake for about an hour, but we didn't see anything or get any follow ups.
So we packed up and went to the south end of the lake. We fished there for a while. It was about 6:09 when Mr. L. got a follow up but it didn't hit. We had a sucker going out the back and about 10 minutes after Mr. L. got the follow up, our sucker bobber started to go up and down.
Then Mr. L. set the hook twice and handed the pole to me. I started reeling the fish in. It fought very hard, and when I got it in I thought I had lost it because the hook flew out of his mouth. But then Mr. L said he had it. I was so happy, it was my first musky!!
We took two photographs, measured it, let it go, then packed up and left. I can't wait to go musky fishing again!
