Two students in the Music Department of Silver Lake College, Douglas Resch and Jennifer Rivera, will perform a combined sophomore recital on guitar and saxophone respectively. The recital, which is free to the public, will be held on Wednesday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Katinka Daniel Fine Arts Theatre on the Silver Lake College campus (2406 South Alverno Road in Manitowoc).

Resch, music major and native of Branch, is actively involved in the music department at Silver Lake College, performing in the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Concert Choir and Chamber Singers each semester. Resch has been a member of the student music organization (CMENC) and is currently serving as treasurer for that group.

The guitar portion of this recital will contain a diverse repertoire of compositions by J.S. Bach and Ernesto Lecuona on the classical guitar and Hideaway by Eric Clapton on the electric guitar.

Rivera, a music education major from Armstrong Creek, has been playing the saxophone for 10 years. Attending high school on the south side of Chicago, Rivera participated in the All Conference Bands, and traveled to Canada, Italy and Spain with the performing groups.

At Silver Lake, Rivera performs in the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Concert Choir and Chamber Singers each semester and currently serves as Vice President of the student CMENC. After receiving the Bachelor of Music degree, Rivera plans to continue her education at Silver Lake and obtain her Master of Music in Music Education. She hopes to become the director of a high school band and thereby share her love of music with others.

Rivera's portion of the recital will showcase alto saxophone transcriptions of compositions by the well-known, great composers: Ludwig van Beethoven, Arcangelo Corelli and Georges Bizet.
