Harold was born in Wabeno on October 19, 1925 to the late William and Grace (Charlton) McNulty. He joined the U.S. Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He then returned to Wabeno and in 1947 married Blanche Jewell. The couple made their home on the "Rock Bottom Ranch" on Trump Lake Road in Wabeno.

They raised their two daughters there, Jewel Ann (James) Volk and Kathleen Mary (Tom) Tucker.

Harold worked for the U.S. Forest Service, first as an instructor at the Blackwell Job Corps Center and then in the field until his retirement in 1988.

He had a talent for designing and building many items including a log skidder (aka the “scorpion”) which he built in 1964, an outdoor Hasa wood furnace, grandfather clocks, china cabinets, gun cabinets, book cases and other smaller things. He shared these handcrafted cherry wood items with his family which they will deeply cherish. Harold was also adventuresome. Even when he was in his seventies he bought motorcycles for himself and Blanche and convinced her to go riding with him. He enjoyed a game of cards and a glass of beer with his friends at the local pub as well as being out of doors and working in his garden and berry patch. He was a member of the American Legion Sylvan Post 44 of Wabeno.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, their two daughters and sons-in-law; six sisters, Beatrice Preston, Lucille Morgan, Charlotte Olsheske, Edna Henderson, Darlene Longrie, all of Milwaukee and Mary Tiede of Wabeno; four grandchildren, Lisa (Jim) Coffey of Hinckley, Ill., Lori (Lee) Mattern, Chris (Michelle) Volk both of Wabeno and Carrie (Scott) Jameson of Milwaukee; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He is further survived by in-laws Melvin Longrie, Henrietta McNulty, Carmel (John) Stage, Donald (Patricia) Jewell all of Milwaukee; Jean Berger of Two Rivers, Herbert (Theresa) Jewell of Arlington Heights, Ill., Marie Adele Young of Rhinelander, Kathleen Tokarczyk and Francis Jewell both of Wabeno, Patricia (Jack) Gustaveson of Eau Claire and Barbara (Mike) Mulliken of Florence, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents in 1959; two brothers, George (1997) and Etheral (1981); two sisters, Leola Calkins (2006) and Audrey Shea (1989); in-laws Howard Preston, Oswald Calkins, David Morgan, Walter Olsheske, Robert Henderson, John Tiede, James Shea, Robert Young and Leo Tokarczyk.

The visitation is on Saturday September 15, 2007 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Presbyterian Church in Wabeno. The Memorial Service is at noon at the Church with Pastors Dennis and Wendy Mannering officiating. Interment of the urn will follow the service at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery in Wabeno where the American Legion Post of Wabeno will conduct veteran ceremonies. Norman Slowe

My elderly brother, Norman Slowe, entered the kingdom of his Heavenly Father August 25, 2007. He entered the Cashmere Convalescent Center August 22.

He was the beloved son of Benjamin Slowe Sr. and Delphine Slowe, both deceased and buried in Pocatello, Idaho. Norman is survived by his wife, Abigail Baltus Slowe and son, Charles (Chuck) Slowe of Cashmere, Washington. His only daughter, Kay Ann and her children live somewhere in the United States. His brother, Russell G. Slowe Sr. lives in Montpelier, Idaho and his sister, Sharon Slowe Macarty, in Pocatello, Idaho.

Norman was born in Wabeno on August 25, 1925. He lived there in the early years of his life. It was when he was a teenager that he joined the United States Marine Corps. His sister still remembers all of the Marine Songs he taught her as a child. He spent many pleasurable days and nights at the Wild Rose Resort, located in Northern Wisconsin. It was there that he spent his days hunting, fishing and boating. He helped his parents in all their business endeavors.

The love of his life was the United States Marine Corps and his boat. He spent as much time as he could fishing in Canada. He was a Marine hero, having served in the United States Marine Corps for several years. It was in Tinian that he suffered substantial shrapnel wounds. Some of the shrapnel was never removed from his body. Those wounds caused him to lose the sight in his right eye.

Norman was employed at the Tree Top Apple Company in Cashmere for many years. Before that time, he worked for this father in the theatres in Cashmere. Norman was an excellent father, husband, son and brother. He will be missed by those that didn't have the opportunity to see him in the sunset of his life. His wife and son had his body cremated and there were no funeral services. This information has been submitted by his baby sister, Sharon Slowe Macarty of Pocatello, Idaho.
