scholarship opportunities

The Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired recently announced the availability of scholarships for students enrolled in college, vocational school programs and the Business Enterprise Program.

Applicants must be high school graduates, and a returning student to higher education programs. Students must carry a full load of classes as defined by the institution they are attending. A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher is required to apply.

This year the Council will be offering nine $1,500 and two $1,000 scholarships. All application materials are available on the Council’s Web site; www.wcblind.org. A “Verification of Vision Impairment” form must be included in the application for eligibility.

Applications are due by October 1, 2007. Scholarships will be presented at the November 10, 2007 Awards and Scholarship Banquet which will be held in Madison Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired is a private, non-profit agency. Its mission is to promote the dignity and independence of people in Wisconsin who are blind and visually impaired by providing services, advocating legislation and educating the general public. It is funded by an annual drive, private grants and bequests. The Council founded in 1952 is celebrating its 55th year of providing programs and services to Wisconsin residents.
