New coffee shop locates on Lincoln
By Michael Skubal - DAILY NEWS STAFF
If your cup happens to be a coffee cup, it runneth over. There is a new coffee shop and restaurant in town and it feels like the big city.
Maureen Brown opened the Crimson Cup last Friday to a surprising crowd. Brown plans a grand opening towards the end of September. “The opening was great, far better than I expected,” said Brown.
Brown's daughter Sam is part of the staff. In fact, the whole venture is a family affair. The Browns have two daughters, Sam and Nicole, and a son, Erik.
“My brother-in-law owns the building,” said Brown. “I've always loved to cook. And I always wanted to own a restaurant. My husband Brad and I belong to a gourmet cooking group. We alternate, sometimes the guys cook and sometimes the girls. People have told me I should open my own restaurant and here I am.”
The Crimson Cup is a warm inviting place with framed photos on the wall. You can sit inside or take a table in the enclosed backyard. The yard is extensively landscaped and full of flowers. Umbrellas give the patio a European feel.
“I wanted something relaxing, with a warm homey feel,” said Brown. “We serve panini sandwiches, a grilled sandwich filled with meats, cheeses and vegetables. All our breads and bakery products come from Golden Harvest. They've been fun to work with. We buy local produce, often from the Farmers' Market. And we serve seasonal entrees when possible.” They serve coffees, lattes, iced coffees and smoothies. They also sell whole bean coffee by the pound.
And the name? “We went around and around, back and forth,” said Brown. “Some names were corny. I was filling out a form and they asked for the name of the business. I knew I wanted my logo to be a red cup. What's another name for red? Crimson! That's how it came to me.”
Hours at the Crimson Cup are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturdays they are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parking is in the rear. For more information call 362-8994.
