Bloom named Oneida County District Attorney
by Daily News Staff
Governor Jim Doyle on Thursday announced the appointment of Michael Bloom as Oneida County District Attorney.
Bloom will fill the vacancy created when former District Attorney Patrick O'Melia was appointed Oneida County Circuit Court Judge in June.
Bloom's first day of work will be Monday, July 30, 2007 and he will serve a term ending January 5, 2009.
“Michael Bloom is an outstanding attorney, and I know he will serve the Oneida County community well,” Governor Doyle said. “His dedication to justice makes him an ideal District Attorney. He brings strong experience and leadership, and I know he will serve well in this position.”
“I am tremendously honored that Governor Doyle has seen fit to appoint me to serve as Oneida County District Attorney,” Bloom said. “I am looking forward to working closely with the courthouse staff and all of our local law enforcement agencies to develop an effective and productive working relationship for the benefit of the public in Oneida County. The citizens of Oneida County deserve a worthy successor to longtime District Attorney Patrick O'Melia, and I will work hard in the coming months to provide the same quality of leadership in our criminal justice system.”
Michael Bloom has previously served as an attorney with the State Public Defenders office and has practiced civil and criminal litigation at Eckert, Kost & Vocke since 2002.
He is active in the community as an Attorney Coach of the Rhinelander High School Mock Trial Team, board member of the Rhinelander Rotary Club, and Boy Scout Troop 660 committee member.
He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and his law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Bloom lives in Rhinelander with his wife Beth and their two children, Erin and Adam.
