Smiles and frowns

Editor, The Daily News:

Driving to and from work doesn't always bring a smile to your face - unless like me you live somewhere in Pine Lake. One caring homeowner with a great sense of humor has a display most of the year of pink flamingos outside in their front yard.

A few weeks ago they were all gathering around a campfire. For the 4th of July they were all in a parade line pulling a little wagon!

It's sometimes just the smallest thing in our troubled world that makes your day or brings a needed smile to your face. So to the caring homeowner on Pine Lake Road, thank you for all my smiles.

Now something that brings a frown and makes me sad and angry -

My husband and I recently built a new home in Sugar Camp just off Pine Lake Road. We had two carved eagles at the entrance to our subdivision on stone pillars, but two weeks ago someone stole one, and this past weekend they came back for the other one. These were valued at several hundred dollars and were cemented in with 8” spikes. They were beautiful. The name of our subdivision is “Eagles View” - well, at least we still have the view.

Any information regarding the stolen eagles, call Mike and Barb Nabbefeld at 272-1559. These eagles belong to our subdivision developer Ken Walkowski. His number is 493-3722.

Sometimes you get smiles and unfortunately you also get frowns.

" My missing item was lost years ago; I finished a cross stitch of the familiar picture of a guardian angel overseeing two young tots crossing a rickety wooden bridge. It wasn't framed, just a piece of 10x12 cross stitch done on Aida cloth. But it was lost among other storage items; perhaps it is in a landfill but if it's not, it means a lot to me. I spent a year doing it, most of it done at 8783 Frank Dr. Randy I no longer have and I hope to find this craft I worked on so many hours as we sat together. If you know of it please consider returning it to me. I will be returning to live in Rhinelander soon and would so very much appreciate it. MS Kate Sisco "

" IT WOULD BE NICE IF RHINELANDER COULD HAVE AN INTERNET GUEST BOOK THAT THE CITIZENS OF RHINELANDER AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY COULD SIGN AND MAKE COMMENTS TO THE FAMILIES THAT HAS LOST A FAMILY MEMBER OR FRIEND. IT MUST BE A SPECIAL PROGRAM FOR THE OBITUARIES THAT NEWPAPERS USE. I JUST LOST MY PARENTS IN INDIANA AND THE GUEST BOOK WAS SIGNED BY MANY FRIENDS OF MY PARENTS THAT LIVED ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. IT WAS COMFORTING. THANK YOU "
