Wellness Weekend planned for July 20-22
Marshfield Clinic, Nicolet College and the Conserve School are again sponsoring the Northwoods Wellness Weekend July 20-22 at the Conserve School, Land O' Lakes.
"It promises to be a great combination of relaxation, recreation and wellness education - all in the beautiful, natural setting of the highly acclaimed Conserve School," said Jim Schumaker, M.D., family practitioner at Marshfield Clinic Eagle River Center, who initiated the event. The weekend, for adults age 18 and older, will feature presentations and recreational activities.
Keynote speaker Dave Rakel, M.D., director of the University of Wisconsin Center for Integrative Medicine and assistant professor, Department of Family Medicine, UW School of Medicine and Public Health, will discuss optimizing the patient-doctor relationship.
In addition to organized activities, time will be available to hike, bike, swim, canoe, kayak or fish and participate in tours of the Conserve School, story-telling and group drumming. Wellness presentations include exploring health and healing through t'ai chi, stress reduction, pilates, secrets for a long and healthy life, journaling, pain management and more.
In addition to Schumaker, Marshfield Clinic speakers include Mike Schulein, Ph.D., child and adolescent psychologist, Marshfield Center, who will discuss the importance of friendships; Cindy Stenavich, a registered dietitian at the Marshfield Center, who will discuss emotions and eating; and Minocqua Center Physical Therapist Steve Hoffmeister, who will lead morning health walks as well as a Nordic walking session and provide tips on how to make walking a lifelong exercise.
