Milwaukee County Executive rolls through Rhinelander
by Michael Skubal - Daily News Staff - mskubal@rhinelanderdailynews.com
When in Rhinelander, where do you stop to get your picture taken? What is the one photo that will say to the world, “I have been in Rhinelander?”
For Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, and so many others, it is the great green Hodag statue in front of the Chamber of Commerce building. Walker and other regional and local government leaders stopped in Rhinelander Wednesday afternoon. It was part of the 4th annual Scott Walker Tourism Ride. That's ride as in Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The Tourism Ride promotes Milwaukee County and the Milwaukee-7 region and all the cities along the way. The ride started in Milwaukee and, by the time it's done, will have stopped in 38 cities and 22 Harley-Davidson dealerships.
Acccording to Walker, the ride visited Rockford, Illinois, and cities in Iowa and Wisconsin. The idea is to let visitors to these cities, and local residents, know that Milwaukee is a great place to vacation.
Attractions in Milwaukee being promoted by Walker include: the Milwaukee County Zoo and park system, the Milwaukee Art Museum with the Calatrava-designed Quadracci Pavilion, the Milwaukee County Museum, Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin, and Miller Park, home of the Milwaukee Brewers, National League Central Division leaders and Summerfest, the World's largest music festival.
