Nu-Roc News - Few would argue that May is one of the most beautiful months of the year. One only has to look around to enjoy Mother Nature's finest work. At Nu-Roc Community Healthcare, May was also a lot of fun.

Early in the month, we were treated to a very special occasion. The Junior Class from Laona High School celebrated their prom but before heading out for one of the most memorable nights in their lives, they came to Nu-Roc. They were all dressed up, gussied up and in very high spirits. The kids paraded throughout the building, showing off their gowns and tuxes. The dresses were beautiful; the girls were gorgeous; and the guys were handsome. It also became very memorable for us as our residents were still talking about it for days afterwards. These young people should be commended for taking the time to remember us. Their kindness won't be forgotten.

This was also the month we went to Northern Lights Casino in Carter. The Nicolet Chapter of the AARP from the Townsend/Lakewood area met us at Indian Springs. Following a delicious lunch, we were paired up with an AARP member and off we went! Each resident was given a $5 coupon to use. Thank you so much Potawatomi Bingo and Northern Lights Casino! Some people managed to make that $5 last quite a while and we even had a couple of big winners. It was a wonderful day and we are grateful to those who helped.

St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wabeno had their annual fish fry and we were fortunate enough to attend. The fish and all the fixins were tasty but the best part was getting out and visiting. We did much socializing as we ran into friends and neighbors that we hadn't seen in a while.

The month of May saw the recognition of National Nursing Home Week. We had several special events. Roger Geldon from Crandon spent an afternoon entertaining us with his accordion and singing. He even provided an impromptu dance lesson at the end. Thanks, Roger.

We had an old fashioned ice cream social one afternoon. DeHart Dairy from Crandon donated the ice cream and the kitchen crew provided a whole cart full of toppings. We were able to pick and choose what we wanted and just about licked our bowls clean! Good thing we don't do that everyday!

Mother's Day was celebrated with Catholic services officiated by Deacon Harold from St. Ambrose. That was followed by refreshments and a social hour. All the ladies were given corsages.

With all the dandelions growing, we reminisced about making dandelion wine. We were able to find a recipe for it on the Internet. We actually whipped up a batch! It has to ferment for three weeks so we aren't quite sure about the results but are looking forward to a wine tasting session in June.

We celebrated Memorial Day with a kickoff to summer party. It was fun talking about summer long ago and enjoying ice cream treats. Catherine Klescewski from Armstrong Creek saw to it that each veteran in our facility received a beautiful patriotic bouquet. Many thanks to her.

Nu-Roc's residents are making the most of the nice weather and are looking forward to a busy summer. We appreciate anybody who helps out or comes to visit.
