James Belland

James Belland, age 57, of Laona passed away Friday, May 25, 2007. Arrangements are pending. Contact Weber-Hill Funeral Home for visitation and service times at 478-2322.

Glenn L. Carter

Glenn L. Carter, age 86, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at the Crandon Nursing Home. He was born on October 27, 1920 in Crandon to Lester and Ivy (Cardinal) Carter. On September 21, 1940, Glenn and Myrtle Anderson were married at her family home on Range Line Road.

Glenn was a lifelong resident of Crandon and owned and operated the Crandon Motor Company in Crandon. He served in World War II as a member of the Marine Corps. He was an active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. He worked for the Crandon Rescue Squad as an EMT for many years. He was a member of the Free Order of Masons. For years, he was a proud member of the Forest County Veterans Honor Guard.

He is survived by his wife Myrtle of Crandon. He is also survived by sons, Richard (Marlene) Carter of Crandon, G. Robert (Sandi) Carter of Crandon, Dan (Anita) Carter of Sobieski; and daughter, Linnea (Warren) Dorau of Crandon. In addition, he is survived by a sister, Jeanne Wells of Denver, Col.; and brothers, Harold (Betty) Carter of Bristol, Tenn. and Robert (Lenore) Carter of Newcastle, Wyo. Glenn is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank; and a grandson, Lester.

Services were coordinated by the Weber-Hill Funeral Home in Crandon. Visitation was at the funeral home on Friday evening, May 25 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The service was at St. Luke's United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, followed by a graveside service at Lakeside Cemetery. Immediately following the services, a luncheon was held in the basement of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

George and Sophie Klasnja

A graveside service will be held for George and Sophie Klasnja on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Laona Cemetery.

George was born in Chicago, Ill. on November 15, 1918 to George and Clara Klasnja. George served in the army from 1941 to 1945. George also worked for Kodak for 34 years. While working at Kodak, George and Sophie met and were married on June 27, 1953. George and Sophie moved to Arizona in August 15,1981, where they lived for 28 years. Sophie pasted on December 11, 2001.

George and Sophie were preceded in death by both parents and one nephew George Reuss. Nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews survive George and Sophie. They are further survived by Jean Reuss, Jon Reuss, Jim (Rita) Reuss, Joan (Kenny) Houle, cousin Carol (Mel) Wolter, Dorothy McCallum, long time friend Dave Swanson, neighbor and friend Gloria Curran.

Vacationers and locals gear up for summer
The traffic on area roads and lakes has increased and will remain at this busy pace until Labor Day weekend. It was interesting as we fished several area lakes to watch many docks being returned to the water. One summer cabin had six vehicles parked nearby and at least ten fellows using rakes and another mowing the lawn.
