accommodate lung disease

Breathing just got easier for many area residents and visitors with lung disease. Mom's Laundromat in Minocqua has designated two dryers as “dryer sheet free.” The Northwoods Laundromat in Rhinelander has had cleaner dryers since last year.

Why the change? Dryer sheets are made of chemicals that can aggravate asthma. When they are used in a dryer, they leave a residue that coats the clothes of the next person to use the machine. Many individuals with asthma can't wear their own clothes after using a dryer that contains the chemicals.

Anyone who wants chemical-free laundry is welcome to use the machines. Natural fabrics such as cotton normally don't require sheets.

Anglers contemplate challenges facing state
The morning was mild even though it was May 19 and we were in Boulder Junction, just south of our border with Michigan. The occasion was a gathering of fraternity brothers who had attended UW Stout in the mid sixties. In our boat were the ‘Osseo Jinx,' longtime friend Jim Naylor and this scribbler. Jim and his wife, Nancy, have had a summer home in the Boulder area for just over two decades and he wanted to show us Boulder Lake. READ MORE >
