Community : Former Crandon resident receives veterinary degree

Tracey Hageny, of Crandon, was conferred the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine on Friday, May 18 at the UW Kohl Center. A member of the class of 2007, Dr. Hageny was among the 21st class of veterinary medical students to graduate from the school.

During veterinary medical school, she received the Patricia G. Hasseman Fellowship in both 2006 and 2007. The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine is the only veterinary school in Wisconsin, and one of only 28 veterinary schools nationwide. Only 80 students per year are admitted to the four-year professional degree program.

Dr. Hageny, a 1996 graduate of Crandon High School, is the daughter of Nick and Bobbi Samz, of Crandon. She has accepted an internship in small animal emergency medicine at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Richmond, Virginia. Prior to being accepted to the Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Hageny earned a BS degree in bacteriology and medical microbiology & immunology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
