Crandon Book Club
Throughout the summer months, all meetings of the Crandon Book Club will now be held on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at the Crandon Library. Wisconsin historic highlights
More than 60 public events will be held throughout the state in May during Historic Preservation and Archaeology Month.
This year's Historic Preservation and Archaeology Month theme, “Making Preservation Work!,” celebrates the restoration and preservation efforts in Wisconsin communities. State and local community groups will honor their district histories through various activities around the state emphasizing the importance of historic preservation and archaeology in our daily lives.
A sampling of events in communities across Wisconsin includes “The Past Passed Here,” a special weekend event featuring hands-on activities, highlighting the historic sights and sounds of early Chippewa Falls, free walking tours of Madison and Green Bay neighborhoods and a Hidden History Bus Tour in Greenfield.
Archaeology month highlights include: a tour of ancient Indian mound sites in Sauk County; a tour of the Bell Coulee Rockshelter ($25); an archaeological field survey opportunity in La Crosse and Marsh Melodies in Horicon, featuring exhibits, activities and tours focusing on the area's Native American Indian history.
