The snow is leaving - again! The ice is leaving - again! Will spring weather come back - again? Cottage owners are showing up on weekends to get things ready for fishing season and summer. Soon the “snowbirds” will be returning from their winter digs. It has been a strange winter, weather wise, but we have managed to make it through once again.

Reminder to Artists

Bring your art projects to work on, and your lunch if you wish, and some of your artwork for “show and tell” and join with other artists for a get together meeting at the Hiles town hall on Thursday, April 19, at 10 a.m. And stay until 3 p.m., if you'd like. Bring a plastic table cover too.

I've been hearing from several interested folks and it sounds like it will be a good gathering.

Make Ahead Berry Good Breakfast

The make ahead, bake in the morning breakfast casseroles are great for company and to take along for fellowship breakfast gatherings after church services. They can be served with maple syrup, but really don't need it. This one has tangy berries in it. Fresh berries can be used as they become available; frozen berries are available year round. I think dried cranberries would work well, too. Plump them up in a bit of hot water, and drain before using.

Baked Berry French Toast

1/2 cup flour

1-1/2 cups whole milk

2 Tbs.. sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

6 eggs

10 slices French bread, cut into 1" cubes

3 oz. pkg. cream cheese, diced

1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries (if frozen, do not thaw) You could use frozen raspberries too.

1/2 cup chopped nuts

2 Tbs.. sugar

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Generously grease 13”‘x9" glass baking dish. Beat flour, milk, 2 Tbs.. sugar, vanilla and eggs in large bowl until smooth. Stir in bread cubes until well coated, then pour mixture into prepared pan.

Top with cream cheese cubes and berries. In small bowl, combine 2 Tbs.. sugar, cinnamon, and nuts. Sprinkle over berries and cheese. Cover casserole and refrigerate up to 24 hours. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and bake casserole, uncovered, for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown. Serves 8.

Calendar

April 19 - 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Art Group meeting, Hiles town hall

April 26 - 5 p.m. - Red Hatters meet at Pine Lake Pub to car pool to dinner at Mallards on Metonga

April 25 - Administrative Professionals Day - Everybody else has a day, so I guess they need one too, so if you know any, start now to look for that Hallmark card for them. (I don't mean to make fun of the Administrative Professionals out there, but, when I saw this on my calendar, it was a new commemoration to me, and I thought I should mention it.)

Spring

“Expect to have hope rekindled. Expect your prayers to be answered in wondrous ways. The dry seasons in life do not last. The spring rains will come again.” - Sarah Ban Breathnach

“Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come.” - Robert H. Schuller

“Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!" - Robin Williams
