Rhinelander will be hosting two Wisconsin Muskie Tour (WMT) one-day catch and release tournaments in August. The first event will be held on Boom Lake Saturday, August 4, and the second on the Moen Chain on Sunday, August 5. It is the seventh year that the WMT has visited Boom Lake, but the first year on the Moen Chain. The Boom Lake tournament has filled to capacity for the past four years and is expected to fill again. Though the WMT has not visited the Moen Chain in the past, 2007 entries are trending towards a full tournament.

With an expected field of 60 teams at both the Boom and Moen Chain tournament, each will pay out a first place prize of $10,000. New to the 2007 season is the “Muskie Double Header” which awards a $10,000 bonus to a team who wins both tournaments on the same weekend. This could mean a $30,000 paycheck to one team for a weekend of muskie fishing.

The headquarters for the Boom Lake tournament will be at The Doghouse on Highway. 47, and the headquarters for the Moen Chain event will be at Judy's Twin Pines. The public is welcome to attend the awards ceremony at both tournaments at 5 p.m. following each event at the designated headquarters. Birchwood Resort on Lake Three and Larson's North Haven on Moen Lake are also assisting the WMT in running a successful and safe tourney.

The WMT is open to the public to compete in all qualifying tournaments. A team can fish one event, or as many as they prefer. The cost per tournament per two-angler team is only $300. The WMT is a 21-tournament circuit, hosting tournaments on some of the world's best muskie waters in Wisconsin. To enter the tournament and for more information, log onto the WMT's Web site at www.wmtseries.com, e-mail huntermd@newnorth.net, or call 715-369-1394.
