“I think everyone who has ever owned a computer has had some question about it at some point,” said Dick Scuglik, Information Technology instructor at Nicolet. “These sessions will provide the public with basic advice and also give students a real world taste of issues they may face once they graduate.”

The sessions - all free and open to the public - will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Sept. 21, Oct. 19, and Nov. 16, each of which is the third Thursday of the month.

Those attending are invited to come and go as they please.

All three will be held on the first floor of the Tamarack Center on the Rhinelander campus. Light refreshments will be served.

Each session will feature a 15-minute presentation on a given topic by a second-year Nicolet computer student. Each presentation will start at 5:30 p.m.

The first week's presentation on Sept. 21 is “Setting Up a Home Computer Network.” This will be followed on Oct. 19 by “Computer Virus Detection and Prevention” and on Nov. 16 with “Creating Home and Small Business Databases” to organize a variety of information from addresses and recipes to customers, suppliers, inventory and community contacts.

For more information, contact Scuglik at 365-4633, 1-800-544-3039, ext. 4633, or by e-mail at rscuglik@nicoletcollege.edu.

The trouble with Democrats (09.10.2006)
The bookstores, journals of opinion and newspaper Op Ed pages are chockfull, these days, of books and articles on the subject of “What's Wrong With the Democrats?” It isn't that they are believed to be at death's door. On the contrary, they are widely regarded as likely to wrest control of the House of Representatives from the Republicans this November, and substantially improve their situation in the governorships and state houses.
